Near the end of 2013, a quirky movie was released with Ben Stiller in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
If you think you have a vivid imagination, then you'll be shocked by Walter Mitty and Hollywood's approach to the 1939 book.
"Have you done anything noteworthy?", was the question posed to Walter which started him on a journey.
For me, it could have been a sharp jab to the eye. I had done tons of things and yet didn't have references for even a Wikipedia page.
It was then I realized that there's lots of IT people and had to do things they couldn't or won't to stand out.
I was afraid to make investments in myself or marketing or business development and even to travel internationally - much less speak to large audiences.
"WHAT IF I FAILED, WENT BANKRUPT, AND FELT HUMILATED?", shrieked that little handicapped boy who defeated all bullies, but still hurt from the harsh ridicule all these years later.
Then I remembered that no one expected anything of me and if people were going to laugh any way, then there was no risk in trying.
And when you do something you are afraid to do and succeed, then you give hope to others to do the same.
