TestBustersNewsletter - Issue #89

Happy Tuesday TestBusters,

I am pleased to see more and more TestBusters using the TestBustersNewsletter to share their thoughts on a particular topic. True to the Sharing-Is-Caring motto.?

After my last rant about the value of Autonomous Testing, I was sure that Marcel Veselka, Tesena CTO, Godfather of Autonomous Testing (AT) and the crazy innovative ideas pioneer*, would respond to my rant. It was clear to me that my statements about the value of AT would not go unanswered. You can read Marcel's next crazy innovative ideas below.?

I am writing these words on way to Bratislava for the SANAE BEEREX conference where I will give a talk about Agile Learning. Marcel will also be there for a talk. Guess what the topic is? That's right! Guess who will sit in the audience and maybe ask one or the other provocative question? Correct.?But his is another story ;-)

+++ Autonomous Testing ... another crazy idea ?? in testing

… or maybe not ???

Based on the last Gartner report "Agile Hype Cycle for Agile and DevOps, 2022" autonomous testing is the biggest buzz. BUT also predicted that it will become a standard approach for Agile/DevOps teams in 2-5 years... OR it will die ????

Now a (sad?) truth about the idea: Autonomous testing is just better automation ??

Simple goal: automate more than just test execution.

Do you remember? We already had those discussions:

record & play, continuous testing, model-based, you name it . . .?

Same discussions and skepticism ?? as with test automation several years ago. Even the test automation becomes a standard testing approach there is still a lot of pain in it (scope definition, scripting, maintenance, test data preparation, etc.).

But not only!

To hire or train and keep the right skilled people? Let me know if you are succeeding in it.?

If you accept the idea "less radically" I believe the baby steps bring us there. Some inspiration for improving your test automation:

Let me know your opinion or tips on where to learn more about the topic.

I am collecting the ideas about autonomous testing also here (living document, never finished): https://github.com/autonomous-testing/testing-autonomy . . . and you are welcome to contribute as well.

+++ Native Quality Management: Build better software - together

How can we expect our software to be at the highest quality, when quality and development are so disconnected? In this eBook, you’ll explore the concepts of a “quality centric culture” and how your organization can become one by changing your quality narrative, adopting a “Quality as a team responsibility mindset” and turning testers into Quality Advocates. You’ll also understand the tools, processes and methodologies you can adapt to support your transition into a Native Quality culture that delivers Grade A products, day in and day out.
