TestBustersNewsletter #94

Dear TestBusters,

In more than 30 years of software development and testing, I've seen firsthand how technology continues to evolve and shape the field of software testing. And now, with the advent of AI and specifically, models like ChatGPT, we are on the cusp of yet another revolution in software testing.

One of the most significant ways that ChatGPT and AI will change the life of a software tester (and the editor of a Testing Newsletter*) is by automating many of the tedious and repetitive tasks that are currently a part of the testing process.

With the ability to generate natural language text and understand natural language input, ChatGPT can be used to create and execute test cases, analyze results, and even identify potential bugs and issues. This will free up software testers to focus on more high-level, strategic tasks, such as developing new test strategies, analyzing results, and communicating with developers.

Finally, ChatGPT and AI will also change the life of a software tester by increasing the speed and efficiency of the testing process. By automating many of the tasks that are currently done manually, ChatGPT will allow testers to generate a large number of test cases in a relatively short amount of time. This will help to speed up the testing process, and will ultimately lead to more efficient and effective software development.

Overall, ChatGPT and AI have the potential to revolutionize the field of software testing. As software testers, we must embrace this new technology and learn how to use it to our advantage. With the help of ChatGPT, we can create more robust, user-friendly software and work more efficiently and effectively than ever before.

By the way: AI will not replace testers. AI will replace testers who do not understand how AI can support them.?Here you can find a great article from Sofía Brun regarding this topic.

Additionally, below you can find a small set of helpful resources about the usage of ChatGPT that I found in my LinkedIn feed (credits Sunil Ghimire , Aatir Abdul Rauf & Sam Szuchan )

Happy reading

+++ CQSE Online Workshop February 15

Most errors in long-lived software occur in code areas that change a lot. To do things right, you have to make sure that no important changes go live untested.?

Test Gap Analysis (TGA) uncovers such untested changes, considering the chronological order of changes and test runs: New changes invalidate any previous test coverage of the changed code and open new Test Gaps. With subsequent testing, new coverage closes respective Test Gaps on earlier changes. Consequently, TGA gives you an update on your Test Gaps after every test run and every code change. And since the analysis works incrementally, it computes the update in a matter of seconds, even for very large systems.

Join our free online Workshop on February 15, 10:30-12:00 CET, to hear what we learned using TGA with customers and in our own development for more than 10 years and discover the answers to the following questions:?

  • How do you assure the quality of hotfix tests??
  • How do you determine during the iteration how thoroughly selected critical change requests or tickets have been tested?
  • How do you compare the test coverage of different test levels (unit test, integration test, acceptance test, user trampling test, etc.) and find changes that were not checked on any test level?

In addition, you’ll learn about best practices and useful KPIs as well as the results of cost-benefit analysis from many years of service at Munich Reinsurance Company.

Interested? Register here for the live workshop and the recording!?
