The World in 2050 (second part)

In the May edition of Testa Pulse, I highly recommended to read?The World in 2050: How to Think About the Future, by?Hamish McRae.?I?shared?some extracts from the book?about what might be wrong by 2050.?In this?June edition of Testa Pulse, I will share the ten?big, mostly positive, ideas of the book, which are actually?the?most important shapers of the world over the next generation.

1. A middle-class world

In 2050 some two-thirds of the world’s population will be middle class or rich. A majority of humankind will have access to decent healthcare and education, will be able to travel, and eat good-quality food and for most to have a reasonable range of work opportunities, and immediate easy access to the pool of global knowledge.

2. A calmer, more comfortable, more self-confident United States

The country’s population will carry on growing, and?will tackle its current political, racial and economic tensions, and make a success of that effort.

3. The rise of the Anglosphere

In 2050 the most populous countries?of each continent will be?United States, Nigeria, India, Australia and UK/Ireland, all English-speaking. If you look in terms of the proportion of GDP accounted for by this wider English-speaking grouping, it is going to be something like 40 per cent of the world economy.

4. China – the world’s largest economy moves from aggression to cooperation

There will be some sort of transformation in China, most likely in the 2030s, when it turns away from aggressive expansionism and places more emphasis on a calm and more comfortable life for its elderly citizens.

5. The European Union diverges into a core and a periphery

The challenge for the EU will be to persuade its members that the net benefits they receive from membership exceed the costs they have to bear. There will be some set of events that will turn the EU from its aim of becoming an ever-closer union to a more utilitarian association of very different cultures.

6. India and the Indian subcontinent – the prize within its grasp

India will be both the world’s most populous country and its third largest economy. But it will also face?massive challenges (education, environnement, living with neighbors).

7. Africa becomes more important to the world

Africa will manage the journey towards its bigger role in the world economy with more success than many outside commentators expect. Africa in 2050 will be better at channelling its?teenage energy into positive outcomes.

8. Globalisation changes its direction – from moving goods to moving ideas and money

It seems pretty well inevitable that the next thirty years will see rising nationalism and at least some retreat from globalisation. More likely, trade will change its nature. The consequence of that will be a less aggressive, less socially destructive, and accordingly more acceptable version of globalisation.

9. Technology to the rescue

What will change our lives will be the ways in which technology can help tackle practical global problems. The two most important of these will be productivity in the service industries and degradation of the environment.

10. A more harmonious relationship between humankind and our planet

The effort to combine sustainability with higher living standards will dominate the next thirty years and beyond.

2.?????????Find your morning routine:?It’s important to start your day well. Morning routine can include activities like exercising, eating a healthy breakfast,?reviewing your schedule of the day, reading, ...?

3.?????????Reduce stress?with visualization or gratitude practices.

4.?????????Live on your own rules?by focusing on being productive not being busy.?

?

5.?????????Take care of your health?by waking up early, eating well, working out, meditating, taking breaks, ...
