Jon Severs, TES Editor, points towards the need for a long term plan for education, arguing?in his?recent article,?‘that schools are under pressure is not a symptom of public indifference, but a failure to unite myriad public concerns into common areas for action’.
At the FED?we believe that stakeholder engagement is essential for any long-term reform to be successful. It helps ensure that the interests of all stakeholders are taken into account and that reform?is implemented in a way that is beneficial to everyone involved.?
The biggest education consultation ever undertaken in the English education system highlighted?that a balance between centralised policy-making and a more place-based understanding of problems and solutions is crucial in high performing education systems. this has helped shape the FED's belief that a high level national long-term strategy?should then be translated into locally-relevant plans to drive success - with?high levels of stakeholder engagement throughout the process.
As we think about a long term vision and framework for education, the?National Education Leaders Council?have been?discussing?the notion of human flourishing at their recent meeting with a provocation by Michael Stevenson from the OECD. Following?this meeting, we asked?Aimée Tinkler, Deputy Director of the Greenwood Academies Teaching Institute and Vice-president of the Chartered College of Teaching, to share her reflections following the discussion.?You can read them here.
