?
Our first webinar will take place on 24 May 2023 and will feature Dr. Jakkie Cilliers , Head of the African Futures and Innovation Programme at the Institute for Security Studies , who will provide an expert brief on Alternative Global Scenarios & African Futures.?
Context?
On the current trajectory, the gap between Africa and the rest of the world on key development indicators is likely to increase. Recent shocks, such as COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine, have accelerated this trend.?
The presentation will start with an introduction to the African Futures & Innovation (AFI) programme, followed by Dr. Cilliers' examination of global trends and the impact of four global scenarios on Africa’s potential: a Sustainable World, a Divided World, a World at War, and a Growth World.
Talking Points?
? The ‘Development Ceiling’ for Africa in each of these global scenarios: a Sustainable World, a Divided World, a World at War, and a Growth World.
? The impact of these scenarios and what it will mean for poverty, carbon emissions, and economic growth.
? The impact that the current drift towards a Divided World (and possibly a World at War) would have on Africa.
