1st European Conference on TEaching and Research in Sustainable Resource ExtrAction - TERRA - Boppard, Rhine River, Germany, 6-8 September 2023

Europe’s raw materials sector needs 1.2 million jobs but faces serious skill shortages by 2030. Such challenges will only be solved through significant changes in how the European university sector engages with students and society, offers educational programs, educates professionals, and pursues research and innovations.

TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology team Tony Hand , Karin Robam and Veiko Karu were active participants and speakers at the First TERRA Conference.

Tony Hand: Engineers in the mining industry are not just engineers, they are T-Shape professionals

The letter?T?represents the combination of hard and soft skills that are an increasing requirement of many employers today. Future mining, resource, and geology engineer needs T-shaped education to find the solutions that raw materials sector currently faces. The important skills: Deep expertise in the selected field; Communication skills; Problem-Solving skills; Collaboration skills; Project Management.

Karin Robam: Finding raw materials sector technological solutions via full online course: Masters course in circular economy for materials processing (CircPro course)

CircPro course is a fully online course open for any student from any university in the World. You can register until 18 September to take this course in the autumn semester of 2023, and you can join also in the spring semester of 2024 (registration starts January 2024).
