Terra Moulds: from the earth and back. The incredible journey of a blade of grass, from the ground to the consumer.
We know, we know. We talked about Terra Moulds a lot this week.
But our new line is truly unique, and we think you will like this story!
Every product has a story, but not many can boast of an epic journey from a German golf field to an Italian bakery.
Welcome to the 4th edition of The Orange Reel, where we take you on a green adventure, tracing the life of a humble blade of grass through its 9-steps transformation into a sustainable baking mould.
1. From the earth.
Our story starts on a lush, pristine golf course in Germany.
Here, blades of grass bask in the sun, part of the vibrant green that makes the field look perfect. But as golfers stride by, the grass grows and eventually needs a trim to keep the field immaculate.
2. A Fresh Cut
When the grass is cut to maintain the golf course’s appearance, our journey begins in earnest. These clippings are gathered into bales, a process that not only keeps the course neat but also gives the grass a second life.
3. From Grass to Pellets
The collected grass bales are transported to a processing facility. Here, they are transformed into grass pellets: these pellets are then ready to be shipped to an innovative company in Italy, where the magic of turning grass into paper happens.
4. The Italian Transformation
In Italy, the grass pellets arrive at a cutting-edge factory that specializes in producing 100% compostable, PFAS-free paper.
The process is as fascinating as it is eco-friendly, requiring less water and energy than traditional methods. The result? A sustainable, safe paper that's perfect for creating baking moulds.
5. From Paper to Baking Moulds
Next, the sustainable paper is purchased by Ecopack, that specialise in producing innovative, safe and sustainable baking moulds through thermomoulding.

Through this process, the paper is shaped into durable, practical baking moulds, yet 100% compostable and PFAS free.
These moulds are now ready to embark on the next leg of their journey: helping to bake delicious goods.
6. Enter the Bakery
The baking moulds are shipped to various bakery and confectionary industries, where they are incorporated into the production lines. Picture warm, fresh muffins, cakes, and pastries taking shape within these cutting-edge moulds, ready to delight customers.
7. From Bakery to Shop
Once baked, the paper mould, now holding a warm baked good, is packaged and shipped to shops, where it is displayed, tempting customers.
8. The Final Customer
Finally, a customer buys a delicious pastry, enjoying every bite and appreciating the sustainable packaging.
When finished, they discard the baking mould in the organic waste.
9. The Cycle Completes
And here's the best part: the compostable baking mould breaks down naturally, and it's ready to return to the earth and enrich the soil.
This soil helps new grass blades grow, completing the cycle and beginning the journey anew.
A Never-Ending Story of Innovation
At Ecopack, we are proud to be part of this incredible journey, turning a simple blade of grass into a key player in the sustainable baking revolution.
