THE BIG TAKE
UDA scrambles as term limits bill sparks anger?
UDA leaders are in damage control after public outrage over a bill to extend the terms of the President and elected leaders from five to seven years. UDA secretary-general Hassan Omar branded the proposal a "juvenile political experiment", while majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah declared it "dead on arrival". Senator Cherargei, who proposed the amendment, has been accused of testing public reaction on behalf of the regime. Meanwhile, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa countered with a plan to reduce the term limit to four years. Public submissions on the bill close at midnight, with a Senate hearing scheduled for today. ?

Uhuru returns as Mount Kenya continues to boil?
After weeks of public absence, Uhuru Kenyatta has resurfaced in C?te d'Ivoire for an African Union retreat. His return eases the concerns of anxious supporters and political allies. Jubilee leaders expressed relief, with many curious about his whereabouts. Former Governor William Kabogo revealed that Uhuru had assured him he was relaxing. Meanwhile, political tensions in Mt Kenya continue, fuelled by the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua recently apologised to Uhuru for past campaign insults, but Uhuru's camp hasn't responded publicly. The elders plan to meet Uhuru soon, hoping to get his perspective on the unfolding events.
