TEQSA e-News | November 2024
Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency
Australia's independent national quality assurance and regulatory agency for higher education.
Message from the CEO
Welcome to TEQSA's November e-News.
Earlier this month, I was delighted to meet many of you at the TEQSA 2024 Conference, which was attended by close to 1,000 people including more than 100 students. The central purpose of the conference was to initiate insightful discussion among our speakers and delegates, focusing broadly on this year's theme of navigating challenges and embracing change to support Australia's higher education sector.
Recordings from the conference are now available, including my presentation outlining TEQSA's priorities and looking ahead. As you know, I have made it a priority since joining TEQSA to highlight the importance of self-assurance. From my interactions with many of you at the conference, I'm pleased the sector is becoming increasingly aware of TEQSA's updated regulatory approach, and our expectations, when responding to issues in higher education.
I'd like to thank those at the conference who have reached out to me to discuss our plans and what it means going forward. Early next year, we will be updating our stakeholders further with information for the sector about changes to our regulatory model and opportunities to streamline our case management functions to enhance our service delivery.
In other news, yesterday TEQSA hosted its biggest ever webinar audience – more than 2,000 people – to launch our latest toolkit, Gen AI strategies for Australian higher education: Emerging practice. This outstanding response is in support of the work of our Higher Education Integrity Unit and is reflective of an engaged and proactive sector that is continuing to manage the challenges and opportunities of gen AI. We've got so much more work to tackle in this area, so watch this space.
Dr Mary Russell, Chief Executive Officer
