TEQSA e-News December 2023
Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency
Australia's independent national quality assurance and regulatory agency for higher education.
Message from the Acting Chief Executive Officer
Last month, I was delighted to meet many of you at the?TEQSA 2023 Conference, which was attended by almost 1000 people including a record 139 students. The conference was characterised by thoughtful and inspired discussion among our speakers and delegates, and I'm sure the conversations started in Melbourne continued elsewhere as delegates returned home.
Recordings from the conference are now available, including my presentation outlining how provider self-assurance will be of increasing importance to TEQSA's regulatory approach when responding to issues in higher education.
I'd like to thank those at the conference who have reached out to me to discuss this presentation and what it means going forward.?Early next year, we will be updating our website with further information for the sector about how we intend to evolve our regulatory model and opportunities for the sector to provide feedback on these plans.
Alongside this, we will also be engaging further with you as part of our service charter review. We have received valuable feedback from stakeholders from our service charter survey in September, and a revised service charter is now being drafted with a view to releasing this for feedback in February 2024.?Beyond updating the charter,?we are also looking at how we can implement changes that will support improved responsiveness to your enquiries, which is drawing on feedback provided through the provider survey and other forums.
Also in early 2024, TEQSA will be?engaging with the sector around several key risks, including artificial intelligence. As foreshadowed by our Chief Commissioner?in October, TEQSA will be making a request for information from all providers in June 2024 seeking evidence of how your institution is responding to the risks posed by generative AI.?
Of course, we will continue to engage with students, people who work across higher education, providers and other stakeholders throughout 2024 on these and other matters. On behalf of TEQSA, I thank you for your?continued support and collaboration that enables us to protect and enhance?the integrity, quality and reputation of Australian higher education.
We?look forward to continuing our work with you in 2024. Kind regards,
Dr Mary Russell, Acting CEO
