Years ago, during the group expo ‘Black’ in C-Mine, Christina Mignolet and Marleen Dani?ls got intrigued by each others work.

?

In this duo exhibition ‘‘Two Analog Girls in a Digital World’ painting meets photography from the 29 of September until the 29th of October 2023.

Christina Mignonet calls herself a digibeet (digital illiterate) in an interview with Chris Meplon for the blog Hautlesmains.

?

Her portraits are powerful yet the oil layers are thin and transparant, her brush strokes soft, without sharp contours or hard transitions.

The omission of details and background in the tight compositions reinforces the gestures and expressions that directly appeal to the feeling and the imagination.

Much is suggested.

Atmosphere, mood, emotions, movement.

Marleen Dani?ls still prefers analogue photography, the film emulsions like Christina’s brush strokes, define her work.

The choice of colour or black and white interprets the spirit of her subjects in their environment.

Her name is often associated with fashion photography. But those who know her, know that this committed photographer looks beyond fashion. She always liked to keep her field of action, human interest, broad.

As a freelance reportage photographer traveling back and forth between different worlds was a normal thing to do. Sometimes she literally drove straight from the catwalk to a war zone, or vice versa.

That’s is also the reason why the word ‘fashion’ does not appear on the title of her voluminous photo book ‘Sarajevo to Paris’, a compilation of more than 800 pages of 'thirty wonderful years in the wings of the international fashion world' (Stockmans Art Boos, 2021 ).
