Tenet Consultants are welcoming nuclear skills in North Wales
With the much-anticipated news that significant investment is planned for Wylfa, after it was selected as the location for the UK’s latest nuclear power station, the nuclear sector in North Wales is set to see a huge revival.
Wylfa’s original power station began producing nuclear energy in 1963, and the region and wider North Wales area celebrated decades of rich skills and expertise that provided work for thousands of local people. By 2015 however power production ceased, moving the plant into the de-fueling stage, with fuel elements transported to Sellafield for reprocessing.
As production came to an end, many local people opted to relocate out of the area to take up new job opportunities. With the news that a new Wylfa power station is on the horizon though, and the progress of several other key net zero projects, such as HyNet North West, North Wales’ nuclear sector could provide a wide range of long-term job opportunities in rewarding fields.

Welcoming Tenet Consultants to North Wales
One business who’s ready for the North Wales nuclear evolution are Tenet Consultants Ltd , a multi-discipline engineering and design consultancy with over 20 years’ experience supporting nuclear projects from their headquarters in Warrington.
NRL have a long-term partnership with Tenet Consultants, supporting them to identify the right skills and expertise to help them grow their business, so we were delighted to have worked with them as they opened a new office on M-SParc in Anglesey.
It’s a move for the business that’s very much aligned with the future growth of the nuclear sector in North Wales. Tenet Consultants pride themselves in providing leading engineering designs for exceptional products, as well as specialised support for highly regulated industries including nuclear power. Like many businesses, the pandemic saw a shift change in working habits, which for an SME with a diverse and mature portfolio allowed them to become more flexible in where colleagues deliver their work. The new office in Anglesey, affording picturesque views of Eryri, Wales’ largest National Park, reflects this growth in flexibility – as well as providing the business with an operational base to maximise the vast strategic advantages of being located in Anglesey.
Bringing nuclear skills back to North Wales
North Wales has generated plenty of skilled local professionals over the decades, but some of these talented individuals have changed industries or relocated to secure long-term work. The team at Tenet Consultants are keen to bring back valuable job opportunities to the region. With its rich industrial history and mature infrastructure, Anglesey is quickly becoming a hub for innovative projects across various sectors, including tidal-stream turbines, offshore wind, nuclear, and petrochemical.
Whilst the new Welsh office does not rely solely on local work, there is growing confidence for North Wales having a bright future, something that Tenet Consultants are dedicated to contributing to. By offering highly paid jobs, the aim is to attract experienced Welsh professionals back to Wales as well as providing opportunities for the next generation to build rewarding careers. The first local apprentice has already been hired, and all office furniture has been sourced from a small local retailer in Caernarfon. The long-term commitment is to ensure that the local community prospers alongside the business.
Focusing on the next generation
For Senior Mechanical Engineer Huw Brassington, the opening of Tenet Consultant’s new Anglesey office provided a much sought-after return back to North Wales, having relocated out of the area for work after lecturing engineering at a local college in Dolgellau for six years.
Huw understands the regional challenges young engineers face when looking for employment in North Wales, having witnessed the lack of work available for ambitious and talented students. Despite the growth in talent looking to enter the workforce, there aren’t enough apprenticeships and many have to relocate or travel long distances outside of Wales for employment.
Still in touch with many students, he’s now looking to support them into local employment, and would welcome more apprenticeship opportunities. Decades without significant investment in large-scale projects has led to a loss of experienced senior engineering personnel that are needed to provide mentorship, support and knowledge transfer to apprentices. Tenet Consultants are overcoming this challenge through close collaboration with their team in Warrington, whilst working with local colleges to welcome engineers of the future.
