As the year draws to a close we would like to thank all who have followed and contributed to Qisetna throughout 2023. This year saw a series of wonderful projects celebrating and preserving the artistic and cultural heritage of Syria and beyond. This December marks ten years since Qisetna began and we wish to thank our supporters and volunteers for making this possible and share our ambitions for another ten years of positive impact on the preservation of intangible heritage. Return to Tenderness

Supported by Ettijahat Independent Culture, our creative producer and socially engaged artist, Juan delGado initiated Return to Tenderness, a project based in Raqqa in NorthEastern Syria. In collaboration with young people from the city and the local organisation Action for Peace, we traced the musical heritage of the city by the Euphrates. Using digital technology and inclusive methodology they established trustful relationships?with local musicians from the old generation.?The team interviewed and recorded their music, stories, inspiration, and the connection between their music and the community.

Intercultured Festival

Qisetna presented the Kurdish-Syrian poet Ceger Hillo. Hillo's poetry was a soul-stirring journey into Kurdish heritage and human emotion. Through imagery and storytelling, translated into English by the British poet Mike Baynham, Hillo's words painted a captivating portrait of the Kurdish experience. We also featured Ferhad Feyssal, a singer-songwriter in Kurdish folk music. In this soulful concert, Ferhad mesmerised audience with reflections of life from his homeland in Syrian Kurdistan.

A group of young volunteers inspired by the storytelling techniques taught by Marwa Manai came together to share workshops on storytelling, art, and climate change.
