Ten years ago there were 15,044,490 total eligible voters in Sri Lanka. And it has grew up to 17,063,435 in 2024. The overall growth for the period is at 13.42% (2014-2024). Please refer to the below table to understand the growth:
The Year-on-Year growth is ranging from 0.70% (lowest in 2022) to 2.5% (highest in 2022). The average growth is at 1.27% per year over the last decade. There were two presidential elections in the in 2015 and 2019. The next is to be held on 2024. A clear spike is visible in years where there is a presidential election. Or is it just a coincidence? I believe that it has a correlation. People are more motivated to register as a voter anticipating a major election such as presidential election.
