You can be a sales success without getting stressed about sales
A job in sales is kind of stressful. Whether you sell full time for someone else, or just part time on your own business, it can be hard to not get stressed about sales.
Stress comes from a variety of different places such as-
- The constant pressure from your manager to perform and hit target
- Your clients to keep happy, especially when things go pear shaped
- Your family, who would really like you to spend more time with them, than working out of hours to get the deal through the door
- The traffic as you plough up and down the motorway through driving rain to get to that important client meeting on time
Can you tell I have well and truly got the B2B sales stress t-shirt? In fact, I have several!
Top 10 Tips to not get stressed about selling B2B
I decided to make a list of my top 10 tips to preventing sales from stressing you out. Which one is your favourite?
- Prepare effectively before every internal and external meeting- Prevention is most certainly better than cure, so making sure you are well prepared will undoubtedly reduce any stress during the sales process.
- Delegate tasks where possible- Sales people are well known for trying to do it all. However your colleagues are there to help you so why wouldn't you use them? If you don't have a big team around you then consider outsourcing that function to someone who can probably do it quicker and better than you. This will leave you to get on and do what you do best, sell.
- Seek expert advice- Speaking to your sales manager, mentor or sales coach. This is a great way to nip stressful situations in the bud. A problem shared is a problem halved, and they will probably be better placed to show you a different, more successful solution.
- Realign your own expectations- Think about your strengths when considering how you are going to sell. Trying to sell to a prospect without the right skill set can be a tough ask. Think about who else could help you make the sale happy in your favour. Either that, or walk away and move onto a prospect who you feel happier selling to.
- Realign your expectations of others- Not everyone has the same desire to perform as sales people do. Sales people need to work closely with others, such as technical experts and administrators. However, sales people need to realise that not everyone is driven as we are. Getting frustrated by this is a complete waste of energy for sales people. Something that I am personally guilty of!
