Ten Things to Transform Your Life in 2023

The new year is here, and I know if you are like many people out there, you already have a list of your new year's resolutions. Okay, let's stop right there. You have been having your list of resolutions for decades; how is it working for you?

In this new year, how about we do something different? How about you do things that will transform your life? I know there is something that you want to change, except if you are already living a "Perfect life." Wait a minute; that is impossible; since you are human, you've got something to change in your life.

Okay, let's start with the list below. Here is what I can promise you, if you can pick one, two, or three from the list, come December 2023, you will remember this article, this very moment, and you may even remember to send me a "thank you note." I will be waiting for it.

What are you waiting for? Let's go…

  1. People first: Who are those in your inner circle? Mr. Jim Rohn, God bless his soul, told us that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. He is right, but I want to upgrade his quote a little; I want to double the number of people in your circle because I want you to increase your influence. So in 2023, I am saying you are the average of the ten people you spend the most time with". It's simple math. The result and the meaning stay constant. If you want to transform your life, you should start by being intentional about the people around you. Surround yourself with intelligent people. Make sure you have these geniuses on your phone dial so that when you need help, you can quickly reach out to them.?I was not that smart, but I became smarter because I learn from the smart people around me. I work with them, I have lunch dates with them, I go to Church with them, and gradually, my IQ began to increase. Hurray!!!. A smarter me is here. Meanwhile, I won't tell you to completely cut off the "not-so-smart friends" that you currently have; we need to help them become smart too. I hope you get the message, to transform your life, start by upgrading your relationship.

2.?????Love your career. Love your life: Let's spread some love, shall we? It is extremely difficult to do a great job at what you don't enjoy. You will suck at it. Economists have been telling us to expect a recession this year. The tech sector has started dancing to the music from these experts by laying off some of their employees, shaping the year to be a tough one already. I read on LinkedIn about a guy who was laid off after 16 years in a company. Recession is not a good time for anyone, layoff stings, but I still want to encourage people to find a career they love so that they can do excellent jobs and thrive in their careers.

It is possible to love your career and make money doing what you enjoy. If you are not there today, I encourage you to keep searching. You will find it. The same goes for business owners; by the way, don't go into a business just because of the money alone. Money is good. A happy business owner sounds better.

3.?????Don't be deterred by rejection: How you handle rejections will go a long way to show us your attitude and outlook towards life. No one likes the word "No" when pursuing an opportunity, but successful people know how to keep going forward despite multiple "Nos" they may receive in their quest to achieve a goal.

Here is what you should know. No does not mean STOP. It does not mean it is OVER. It just means NEXT OPPORTUNITY. I want you to keep moving forward toward what you desire so you can create the life you truly would love. Don't let the thought of rejection stop you from applying for a job, or for that matter, going after something you desire. I know you understand that principle. That's the way you can win.

4.?????Boost your savings: What if they are right, and the recession actually happened? I don't want it to happen; if it does, I hope it won't be long. Let's just agree; it shouldn't happen. Why are we even talking about a recession? Are you getting worked up about it too? Well, inflation is the culprit here. The high inflation all around the world now means the central bankers need to tame and bring it down. Otherwise, $1 today may only have a purchasing power of 50 cents next year. So, we agree that inflation is not good for our economy. I'm glad we did.

So, you need to prepare and save for rainy days. Again, according to experts, don't I love those guys? We need to have about six months of our living expenses saved in an emergency fund. Do you have that yet? If you don't, I encourage you to do so because the experts know best.?

Hey, outside of that, a recession also brings some buying opportunities. If you see any asset that has fallen in price, you may consider some investment. Quick disclaimer, I am not your financial advisor, so do your due diligence before you invest any of your hard-earned money.?

5.?????Take care of your mental wellness: Over the past two years, the number of people dealing with mental health issues, anxiety, and PTSD has been on the increase. The world has become more stressful. I want to encourage you to de-stress. Yeah, de-stress!!! Too much stress is not healthy for you. You know I love you; that's why I am putting this out. I know you love me too. Thank you.

6.?????Be intentionally selfless: Speaking of love, do you know that everyone wants to be loved? Humans crave love and appreciation. In the spirit of that, in this new year, I encourage you to be intentionally selfless by reaching out to and watching out for others. A simple text may tell someone dealing with a sickness that they are not alone. A phone call may be all someone needs to tell them they are loved. Being there physically for someone may actually be what will keep them alive. Time to think outside the box. Who do you need to love unconditionally?

7.?????Be audaciously bold: 2023 is about maximum fun for me. I want to try many new things. I will be bold and go after my dreams. Would you join me on this adventure? I know you will. So, let's go. Create time to relax and connect with your loved ones. Make out time to break those routines of life. Be intentional about vacations. Relax more. Rest more. What is something new you will try in this new year? Go for it.

8.?????Be an active listener: We live in a noisy world today. The other day I was at the airport, and I noticed that everyone was glued to their phones—no awareness of other people or their environment. Our phones have become the biggest source of distraction that steals our time and attention. Let's change that in 2023 with these simple ideas. When you are in a meeting, put away your phone, so you can listen, engage, and be an active participant. When you are talking to someone, maintain eye contact, and in the word of Stephen Covey, listen with the intent to understand, not with the intent to reply. Can you repeat what you just read?

9.?????Improve your communication skills: CEOs, Business leaders, Teachers, Parents, and everyone else; you all need to upgrade your communication skills so you can transform your life in 2023. Communication is one of the most underrated skills ever. Communication is vital; what you say, how you say it greatly influence the result you will obtain. So what should you do? Take training, practice how to effectively convey your thoughts, and engage more with people to upskill this skill.

10.??Take care of yourself: We started with people and now ending with a person. In this new year, you should take care of yourself. Indulge in more activities that bring peace and joy to your heart. You deserve it. You work hard every day, and there is a chance that you may not have anyone acknowledging your hard work, so here is me telling you to watch out for yourself and take care of yourself because you are important to me.?

Over to you, the time to start your transformation journey is in 0.1 seconds and counting down.
