Ten reasons you should be using Twitter for your business
I deliver small group social media workshops for businesses. The purpose of the workshops is to help them to understand and how to you use their social media more effectively to grow their business.
I noticed that most businesses are using LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram but seem to be reluctant to use Twitter. I wanted to write this article to highlight the benefits of using Twitter and how it can be used as a fantastic tool to share information quickly to a wider audience.
1. Did you know there are 13.7 million users of Twitter in the UK? Twitter is used by both businesses and the general public, so its a great engagement tool for both.
2. The worldwide number is 330 million, so if you are a company that plans to trade abroad, this is the ideal platform to use.
3. 50% of the users are between 30 and 64, which is suitable for businesses that are targeting that age range, probably not the best platform if you are selling to young people.
4. Twitter is so easy to set up and start using. You can customise the display to match your branding, and it's free to use.
5. You can share snippets of information throughout the day. What I love about it is that it is real-time, so Twitter doesn't choose who sees your posts, they go into your newsfeed and are there for all your followers.
6. You can take a very targeted approach to build your followers. For example, if you want to connect to the construction industry, find the accounts of construction companies and follow them. They are very likely to follow you back.
7. Twitter is an excellent platform for starting and following conversations. That's why so many influencers, celebrities and political leaders use Twitter.
8. You can share images, videos, gifs on Twitter and even run polls to start engaging and asking for feedback from your followers.
9. Most large organisations find that Twitter is a great way to offer excellent customer support. For example, if you want a quick answer to your question, tweet them or send a direct message and you often get a faster response then by calling.
10. Finally, if you are attending an event or exhibiting yourself then can find other people attending and start promoting yourself before the event and also while you are there. Most large events will create a hashtag to build a sense of community and encourage conversations.
So, do you use Twitter? If not, why not? Let me know I would be very interested to hear your views on what has worked and what hasn’t.
