Ten Performance-based Questions to Ask Direct Reports Bi-Annually
John J. Sygielski ?????
Passionate about changing lives and destinies through education @ HACC.
As the College conducts its annual performance appraisals of team members, I am always reminded to check in with my direct reports to learn how I am doing in supporting them and, if necessary, how I can improve on doing so. In addition to a 360-degree evaluation senior leaders complete on me for the Board of Trustees, I like to learn their answers to the following questions, questions that you may be able to add to your leadership activities at least twice a year.
- What is your overall satisfaction with your team?
- How would you rate your team’s organizational health and why?
- How would you rate your satisfaction with the College as a work environment for you? (10 being best) If lower than an eight, let’s talk about why and how we can enhance your experience.
- How well do you feel I/we support the goals within the College’s strategic plan?
- How well do you feel I support and develop you?
- How well do I keep you accountable? How well do you feel I hold others accountable?
- How well do I communicate with you? How can it be enhanced, if at all?
- How likely would you be to recommend HACC to a friend looking for meaningful work?
- Do you feel adequately recognized for your contributions? If not, how else can you/I/others better recognize you?
- How likely are you to want to advance at HACC?
These 10 questions provide insight as to why you have been able to execute and lead consistently for so many years John Ski!
