Ten Magic Minutes? - The Beginning

I have finally got round to starting that book. 2024 is the year! I'm inviting you to follow as we go if you'd like to as the book is written in real-time, or feel free of course to wait and buy the finished article in (optimistically) about 12 months time! I'll be undertaking it in short sections that take, appropriately, no more than 10 minutes each to write, hence some may therefore finish a bit abruptly. The aim is to underscore the crucial theme that it's amazing what you can get done in just ten minutes. Here's the first which took me 9m 58s! I hope you enjoy and I'd love your feedback and suggestions along the way as this develops into something that I hope will be helpful to many.

At the end of the Foundations of Success Workshop that I’ve run dozens of times over the last few years, we talk about spending ten minutes at the beginning of every day just to plan - not doing anything except thinking and planning in order that you have a really clear idea of what you want and need to do before you launch into the day.

On one fateful morning, sometime in 2019 I think, and without prior intent, I casually referred to this period of planning as Ten Magic Minutes and didn’t think too much more about it.
When the feedback from that session came in, the most impactful part of the session by far was the Ten Magic Minutes? concept (which I’ll refer to as TMM from now on – it’s going to be a major theme of this book if you hadn’t already guessed)!
The next time I ran the same workshop, I again referred to this period of planning as TMM, and again it featured heavily in the feedback of most valuable ideas from the session. And so an idea was born that has flourished ever since. It’s become a core part of the terminology that we use in Leadership Management International (LMI) UK , the business that I lead in the UK that’s part of the global Leadership Management International, Inc. organisation.
TMM has developed a life of its own. Hundreds of people up and down the country, from major corporations to solopreneurs, from stay-at-home parents to charity fundraisers are all talking about having ‘done their Ten Magic Minutes’. It’s become a common language for not just charging ahead with whatever happens to have just arrived in the emails, but for thinking proactively, for giving careful thought to what matters most, and for having a right good go at making today a good day, one that you can arrive at the end of feeling happy at what’s been achieved.
