Ten Great Leadership Principles

Ten Great Leadership Principles

  1. Leaders are born and assume leadership
  2. Leaders do not do; leaders lead
  3. Leaders do not need followers, they need actors
  4. Leaders do not use rewards and punishment to attract and keep followers or to make do what the leader wants to be done
  5. Leaders do not need academic education; they need wisdom, intelligence and understanding.
  6. Leaders do not push; they attract
  7. Leaders do not tell, they influence; at least in 90% of situations
  8. The impact of a leader is not narrated; it is experienced and felt
  9. Leadership is not about the self. Leadership is about people and their problems, needs, aspirations, potential, dreams, realities, fears and hopes.
  10. Being in a formal position of leaders does not make one a leader. Many formal positions of leadership are filled by non-leaders and managers.
  11. Leaders ask and listen more than they talk.
