Ten Days Ago
Ten days ago we had a thriving business, we were excited for the future, and we were meeting with clients from the UK to sign a contract to transport Prada and Americas cup sponsors this coming summer.
Ten days ago we were looking forward to celebrating the end of another year living our dream and we were setting our financial goals for the year to come.
In the space of ten days 95% of our business has cancelled, and we are struggling to comprehend a reality that no one’s business plan includes contingencies for.
Today one of our neighboring businesses that supplies a small service for us came in tell me they were waiving the cost of their service until we were through this. This demonstrated the comradeship that exists among business owners, we are unique breed of people who know how to do it tough, risk it all and try and create something.
We all also know how isolating it can be to be in this world. It was such an unexpected act of kindness I burst into tears and bawled like a baby.
I wonder once this has past, will be look in the rear-view mirror and realize the measures taken with the intention to protect and preserve lives has actually resulted in the loss of lives due to a serious impact on mental health and well-being.
We’re fighters, and we are not ready to give up. Every day we are hustling to deal with our new reality. We want to survive this, we want to come out the other end and still be contributing to the New Zealand economy, for many years to come.
Ten days ago my 24/7 job was to grow this business. My job now is to fight for it and find a way through wherever I can.
