Ten 10 takeaways of Threads first 24 hours

Ten 10 takeaways of Threads first 24 hours

24 hours on the internet can feel like a month and you most likely have heard of Threads. But will it survive?

Here are the ten factors that I think will determine its long-term success:?

1. Threads knows its audience

Meta has been collecting data on all its Facebook and Instagram users for years and knows its users better than anyone.?

2. User favourites got early access

Proven content creators got a sneak peek 96 hours before us and have been crafting organic and meaningful content since launch yesterday. Steven Bartlett posted one of his most beautiful messages on social media today tapping into empathy and current societal norms while doing it all in copy with no supporting asset. New content strategies appropriate for new platforms to engage audiences will always win.

3. Meta can’t afford to lose again

After losing millions on the Metaverse, Meta will be betting on a new horse to ensure relevance. When Instagram stories naysayers said they were copying Snapchat stories they were wrong following the widespread success featured on the top of your Instagram feed. The gateway to Reels and billions of further engagements shows that consumers will adopt and adjust to Threads.

5. Meta holds key relationships with advertisers

For the last 10 years, Facebook/ Meta has strengthened relationships with advertisers and media agencies to ensure market dominance. In 2020 digital advertising surpassed traditional advertising and if you have signed up to Threads you won’t have seen any ads, enticing users to the platform until they monetise it.?

6. What content will work?

In the first early hours memes dominated the platform, then text-based messages followed by a flurry of carousels and replies from users, already highlighting algorithmic changes. New content that keeps users engaged is what will move Threads adoption from innovators to early adopter stages in the next 6 months. 16% adoption of the market doesn’t seem difficult when 30 million users have already signed up in the first 24 hours.?

7. Twitter has shot itself in the foot

Meta has the perfect opportunity to launch this product following Twitter creating a 6k tweet restrictions cap earlier this week due to the platform trying to reduce the number of?APIs and bots that are present. Twitter has effectively paywalled those who don’t have an account with Twitter firing all of its press and comms team providing an auto-generated response for press and media enquiries with a ?? emoji.?

8. Will journalists shift from Twitter to Meta?

25% of Twitter is journalists who have more skin in the game than the outlets they work for. They are seeking to further promote their thorough and critical reporting. Scholars, academics and global leaders hold the strongest platform on Twitter but will an expanded content creator pool further democratise news on digital platforms??

9. Will the big Movers also shake??

@POTUS @TheRoyalFamily @NarendraModi and have yet to join Threads posing a question mark on whether global leaders and respected institutions will be able to communicate with the masses. If users use the platform long enough and engagements drop on other platforms, organisations will force to have to adapt to use the platform and understand what performs best.

10. The next 3 months will be critical?

Seeing if early adopters and the early majority gravitate to Threads will be incredibly telling for the long-term success of the platform. If Threads keeps seeing 50 million sign-ups a day it might overtake Twitter in a matter of days. Meta servers will need to take on more capacity as Instagram news feeds and explore pages have been reported to be increasing in glitches since Threads launched.

Innovation, whether big or small, can truly capture the attention of the masses. This is the lesson we've learned in the ever-evolving world of social media. It's an exciting time to be a part of this space, where even the smallest idea can make a significant impact.

Great piece, Scott. ???? Do you think owning a Threads account and being active on the platform will do any favours for your Instagram algorithm?
