Temporary heating & cooling innovations urgently needed for piloting in up to 7 different property portfolios!

Temporary heating & cooling innovations urgently needed for piloting in up to 7 different property portfolios!

The Challenge

The Innovation Gateway partners (the property portfolios run by those shown above) manage hundreds of buildings with thousands of people working in them.

When the main cooling or heating system fails, temporary solutions are required. In some cases, staff bring short term/additional heating on-site which can be a fire risk and adversely affect existing BMS systems. Temporary heating units add additional cables and load to electrical circuits, limiting the number that can be supplied. In warmer months, the partners face the challenge that in their listed buildings they have limited options to supply cooling which relies on being located where they can be vented to the outside atmosphere.

The Solution

Do you have an innovative temporary heating or cooling solution that can be implemented in the case of the main systems failure? The partners are particularly interested in cost effective solutions with high energy efficiency; and which address some of the challenges they face with current solutions (as described above). Examples may include infra-red, battery powered, phase change or other innovative approaches.

Please share this challenge with your network or individuals who might know someone else!

Hi Mike, more about the challenge is here. https://innovationgateway.com/assets/images/Challenge-Guidance-for-Innovators-Round-1-2017.pdf. It's for instances of main system failure etc (although you'd think a solution for that would be key too!).

Speak to Sunamp - re thermal batteries for heating - comes in container sizes. Also small reversible air-to-air heat pumps with flexible intake /reject ducting - would offer lower electrical loading than temporary electric heating.
