Tell Me Your Story and I'll Give You ?10

Welcome to The Goodness Journal, your passport to a world brimming with compassion and positive change. Every week, our team at the Giving for Good Foundation uncovers a heartwarming, true story that illuminates the remarkable impact of kindness and charity. These tales serve as a testament to the incredible power we all possess to make a difference, one act of goodness at a time.

This week’s edition introduces you to an extraordinary individual who gave a listening ear to hundreds battling mental health struggles. His kindness, empathy, and spirit inspire us, and will surely inspire you too!

Meet Raaj Dagwaar , an engineer from Pune, also known as Pune's People Whisperer.

Raj’s journey traces back to the days when he was in the depths of depression. He longed for someone to understand him, but what he was dealing with couldn’t be helped by his loved ones.

Solace came through opening up to a psychologist, and so did the transformative power of sharing feelings without judgment. This revelation became the driving force behind his mission.

He was quick to notice a lack of awareness and understanding about depression and mental health in general around him. Many dismissed it as an excuse or a sign of laziness.

So, Raj decided to help by standing on the streets of Pune city, encouraging people to talk to him about their struggles. Soon, people started to notice, and word about this twenty-something-year-old spread like wildfire. With the lockdown came news of people taking drastic steps, pushing Raj out of his shell, and creating the 'Listeners Army.'

Raj Dagwar, Founder of the Listeners Army

The Listeners Army is a support group of volunteers located across India for anyone dealing with depression to open up about how they feel with no judgment.

?10 to heal people

One of Raj’s compassion projects is his venture to offer people ?10 in exchange for their stories. If you see someone holding a board inviting you to pour your heart out for 10 bucks, it’s Raj.

He aims to create a safe space for people to share their struggles. Because sometimes all you need is a compassionate listener! The Listeners Army has volunteers in every city and district, creating safe spaces for people to discuss their feelings without judgment.

Raj believes there's no substitute for professional help but understands the importance of being there as a friend in need. His Listeners Army now collaborates with organizations to provide affordable therapy sessions at just ?250 per student, making mental health support accessible to all.

The young play an important role in the future of people’s well-being. Hence, Raj’s message to the youth is simple:

"No matter the situation, there's always a way out. Reach out for help and extend a hand to those who need it."

Raj's story is a testament to the incredible impact one person can have on many lives. Small acts of kindness can change the world, and we can break the stigma surrounding mental health together. Join us in celebrating Raj's tireless efforts to make a difference!
