Telecommunications Industry: It's time to regulate OTT!
The growth of IP-based telecommunications networks has enabled the decoupling of application and network layers, allowing OTT providers to offer content and apps directly to end consumers. The global over the top (OTT) market size reached US$ 150.51 billion in 2021 and it is anticipated to rake around US$ 1241.6 billion by 2030.
While OTT providers, are essentially "free riders" on the internet access network, do not share the costs of the obligations with Telecom and Mobile Network Providers whom on the other hand were barely compensated for data transit, whether it may be a fixed cost or a volume-based charge imposed on consumers. Despite the massive subscribers’ numbers increase and data uptake is fast for these players, the revenue growth rates and the ARPU, Carriers and ISPs reported a decisive declining shift by 30%, which means, Carriers are not able to monetize their investments that includes infrastructure expansion to accommodate the traffic increase generated from the increased mobile users’ numbers.
Several solutions were offered, however it either faced user experience issues or high level of user complaints, especially due to direct consumer billing or technical noncompliance. From a technical point of view, OTTs provide consumers with some ease of communication and quality of service, to some extent, YET, the fact remains that there is absence of established rules of the game, especially, issues related the competition with the traditional MNOs, supervision of OTT activities, personal data usage conditions, data traffic monetization, taxation issues, provision and operation obligations.
Regulating the OTT... The alternative potential and value!
When the OTTs appeared on the telecommunication market, MNOs` were unsure how to react while being threatened.
Some Carriers pursued several responses and strategies to deal with the challenges arises from these providers, ranging from denial to emulation, others chose to partnership instead of blocking, and few tried to explore how they can create their own value-added OTT services and hop on the trend.
Therefore, inMobiles have developed the newest of technologies that allows Carriers, MNOs and ISPs along its digital business divisions to regulate the activity, usage and revenue through the Orchestration, Regulation and Monetization of "OVER THE TOP SERVICES" without imposing extra charges on the End Users
Monetize the service directly FROM the OTTs
Taking both security and privacy concerns into account, inMobiles developed an essential technology that allows Carriers to properly collaborate with OTT providers, through a concept based on levying a “usage charge” directly from the voice OTT providers.
This extra charge will be per mobile user and per OTT app

The main proposal is to apply an original and balanced formula that consists of:
Each single device on the network is a carrier of his OWN!
Each subscriber is now a mobile operator on his own, is able to operate his handset and make use of multiple mobile applications and services. InMobiles’ VOR solution guarantees that only for subscribers whom their usage fee was paid by the OTT, will be able to use OTT voice communication. With an average of 5 voice OTTs per subscriber, an operator with 10 million data subscribers, will collect up to 50 million usage fees.
With VOR, you now can BLOCK OTT voice access, subscribers and specific features, while using an advance OTT Charging mechanism through a High Availability platform.
The solution presented by inMobiles also offers a billing reminder notification, an Omni-Channel communication platform, additionally an Automatic Alerting mechanism and an advanced reporting tool
The solution process is based on two periods:
