EE provided the best 5G experience in the UK during the first half of 2024, beating its domestic rivals in key metrics, including availability and performance, according to a new report from RootMetrics. The mobile service testing specialist conducted more than 625,000 tests of the performance delivered by the UK’s mobile network operators – EE (part of BT Group), Three UK, Vodafone, and Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) – across every region of the UK in the first six months of this year.

AST SpaceMobile, Inc., the company building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network accessible directly by everyday smartphones, designed for both commercial and government applications, today announced that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted an initial license for space-based operations in the United States. With this initial license, AST SpaceMobile is now authorized to launch and operate V, S and UHF frequencies to support gateway, feeder link and telemetry, tracking, and control operations for the first five commercial BlueBird satellites.

Nokia told this week that it signed 30 new private networking contracts in the second quarter of 2024. David de Lancellotti, VP of enterprise campus edge business at Nokia jumped on a call with us mid-week to talk about Nokia’s performance in the private networking space. “Thirty in Q2, and roughly 50 — a little more than 50 — in the first half,” he said of contracts signed.
