4.???? O2 Telefonica taps Samsung for Open RAN in Germany

Samsung is further strengthening its presence in Europe by launching O2 Telefónica’s first virtual RAN (vRAN) and open RAN site in Germany. This site is located in Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, and is Samsung’s first in Germany to be equipped with its 5G vRAN and open RAN systems. The Samsung equipment that O2?Telefónica?is using also includes 64 transmit and 64 receive (64T64R) massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radios. These units will provide the maximum coverage and capacity available through 5G in densely populated areas. Around 30,000 people live in the Landsberg am Lech area.

IDC expects worldwide spending on Telecom and Pay TV services will increase by 1.4% in 2024 and reach a total of $1,530 billion.

Nokia has won a major contract with Deutsche Glasfaser to build a highly innovative and modern country-wide fiber broadband network in Germany. Nokia will provide a full suite of fixed access and IP network products including its next-generation PON fiber solution, capable of supporting GPON, XGS-PON and 25G PON on the same fiber, along with its Broadband Network Gateways (BNG). Nokia is swapping out two competitors’ installed basis of IP Core, BNG and Edge Routers including related services.

17.? Ericsson and Umniah collaborate for network expansion in Jordan

Ericsson and Umniah have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for expanding the 3G and 4G network in major cities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Ericsson will provide future-proof Ericsson Radio System?products and solutions, which are flexible to changing demands with multi-band and multi-layer technology. The expansion uses 10 megahertz (MHz) of the spectrum, including 5MHz refarmed from 3G to 4G and an additional 5MHz acquired, allowing for increased network capacity.

19.? Intel and Qualcomm hit by latest mobile Huawei export ban

The U.S. has further ratcheted up its actions against Huawei. This time, the Commerce Department has revoked Intel’s and Qualcomm’s export licenses to sell cellphone and laptop chips to the massive Chinese vendor.?The ban is effective immediately. Qualcomm’s license had allowed it to sell older 4G LTE chipsets to Huawei — it was already prevented from selling 5G silicon to the vendor. Huawei purchased over 40 million chipsets from Qualcomm in 2023. Possibly indicating knowledge of the coming ban, Qualcomm?said on its recent second quarter earnings call?that it expected the Huawei business to dry up this year anyway.
