At the start of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, the Wi-Fi Alliance? announced?Lumen Technologies?has received Wi-Fi 7 certifications for two wireless devices. Lumen is the first company in the industry to achieve a?Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7??device?with its custom-developed solution. Lumen designed its devices for its Quantum Fiber residential and small business customers to deliver faster speeds and better coverage than Wi-Fi 6/6E.

2.???? T-Mobile chronicles 5G achievements since Sprint merger

T-Mobile’s Third Annual Progress Report on fulfilling certain FCC commitments doesn’t address jobs, a hot-button issue for many who opposed the merger. T-Mobile executives like former CEO John Legere famously promised?more jobs?as a result of the kind of consolidation that usually leads to job cuts. Indeed,?last year?T-Mobile announced a 7% reduction in its workforce, eliminating about 5,000 jobs.

3.???? BT gets streetwise for the EV era

BT Group has boosted its green network credentials by kickstarting a project to transform up to 60,000 street cabinets into electric vehicle (EV) charging units, a move that could potentially help it gain new revenue opportunities. The ambitious initiative is run by the UK telco’s startup and digital incubation arm, Etc., and will begin by powering up an EV charging unit in Lothian, Scotland, before rolling out more technical trials in the coming months to explore how the solution can be scaled to address the lack of EV chargers across the UK.

4.???? HPE's $14 billion buyout of Juniper could have an AI twinge

HPE?has announced that it will?buy?Juniper Networks?for $14?billion, in a deal that is expected to close early in 2025. Juniper's CEO, Rami Rahim, will lead the combined HPE networking business once the deal is completed. The HPE move on Juniper may well be motivated by it’s artificial intelligence (AI) needs. Using the AI expertise derived from Juniper’s popular Mist AI platform, HPE could develop AI-powered enterprise systems that could further automate business networking.

Intel expanded its repertoire further into automotive Tuesday with a deal to acquire Silicon Mobility, a fabless silicon and software company that makes SoCs for EV energy management.? But that was not all, and the question arose why Intel has taken so long to rev its automotive engine. That acquisition news came alongside another Intel announcement of a family of AI-enhanced software defined vehicle SoCs with Zeekr to be the first OEM to adopt that new SoC for next-generation cars that deliver “living room experiences,” as Intel put it.
