Governments agreed on new mobile low-band spectrum (below 1 GHz) and mid-band spectrum in the 3.5 GHz and 6 GHz ranges. The GSMA, which represents mobile operators worldwide, welcomed these outcomes that will allow the mobile sector to plan the next wave of communications development through 5G-Advanced and beyond.

Hundreds of technical experts from many of China's biggest state-owned and private companies, including the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China Telecom, Meituan, and Baidu, all gathered in Beijing last month. The purpose behind the meeting was for their staff to receive training so they could be certified as developers on Huawei's Harmony Operation System (OS). While most observers were looking the other way, Huawei has been quietly building an independent Chinese operating system that isn't subject to U.S. sanctions. In the four years after the telecom giant was banned from using Google apps, the Shenzhen-based company has been making significant strides toward achieving its long-term goal: To dethrone Android and make its HarmonyOS the default operating system in China.

Lynk Global is getting closer to bringing its satellite-to-mobile phone technology to the U.S., inking a deal with Rogers in Canada to launch service in 2024. Lynk first signed a deal with PNCC on the Pacific islands of Palau to launch a service using its satellite-to-phone technology. That was followed by deals with Vodafone Cook Islands and bmobile Solomon Islands.

Nokia has said it will appeal the decision, which it claims is based almost entirely on Oppo submissions, does not address Nokia's concerns and ignores multiple rulings against Oppo by non-Chinese courts.

Gadget and wearables brand Noise has raised maiden funding from global audio giant Bose. The Gurugram-based company remained a bootstrapped firm until this Series A round. Noise did not disclose the amount it raised from Bose. “This isn’t just about funding; it’s about synergy: two tech giants, united by a passion for innovation, coming together to reimagine the future of smart wearables,” said Noise co-founder Amit Khatri in a Linkedin post.

Fujitsu announced that it successfully equipped its Virtuora Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) offering for Open RAN with a power-saving application?using AI technology developed by Fujitsu. The Fujitsu rApp, uses traffic estimates powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence to switch network capacity on or off as needed, while maintaining service continuity. Fujitsu in November 2023 conducted interoperability tests of the Virtuora SMO offering equipped with RAN equipment and confirmed power savings of more than 20% compared to conventional methods for estimating communication traffic for individual base stations.

Nokia is making good on promises to divest non-strategic assets with the sale of its Device Management (DM) and Service Management Platform (SMP) businesses to software acquisition company Lumine Group for about $203 million. Lumine Group intends to operate DM and SMP as a standalone business, which will be called Motive. About 500 Nokia employees are expected to transfer to Lumine Group as part of the deal. Nokia said both companies will work closely to ensure a smooth transition and business continuity.
