3.????Qualcomm expects to continue supplying chips to Huawei despite US mulling broader ban
With the US government expected to intensify its ban on deals with Huawei by barring 4G, Wi-Fi, and AI chips, Alex Rogers, president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) and Global Affairs, said during the Q1 2023 earnings call that the company does not currently envisage such changes having an impact on its shipments to Huawei. He explained that Qualcomm’s license to ship chips to Huawei is valid for several years and that the chips in question do not pose a national security threat. Huawei plans to release three new devices in 2023, namely the Huawei P60 series, Mate 60 Series, and the latest Huawei Foldable, the Mate X3. Their previous versions have used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips and Huawei’s Kirin 9000 as processors.?

Amid threats from China in the field of telecom and 6G technology, the Quad grouping of Australia, India, Japan and the US has decided to ensure "security-by-design and best practices of cyber security," according to a White House press release. In a joint statement after the meeting of the Quad Senior Cyber Group in New Delhi on January 30 and 31, the Group said that it was working on identifying best security practices for software services and products and minimum critical infrastructure cyber security requirements.

Ericsson is attempting to prove 5G naysayers wrong by releasing a special Business Review edition of its twice-yearly Mobility Report showing that in the top 20 5G markets, including the U.S., operators have seen a significant boost to their network performance thanks to the introduction of 5G. In addition, Ericsson claims that as 5G penetration increases for these operators, there is also a rise in wireless service revenue growth.

With the goal to foster Open RAN orchestration and management automation (ROMA) product & solution maturity, a functional testbed, consisting of Foxconn’s RU, Capgemini’s CU/DU, and 5GC (both running on Dell servers), has been set up in the TIP Community Lab in Meta’s Menlo Park Campus. The OpenRAN orchestration product from Aarna Networks was tested against TIP OpenRAN ROMA 2.0 requirements on this testbed, based on a test plan developed by ROMA Test Plan Work Group led by VIAVI Solutions with input from other partners. The project met its goal to provide feedback to further improve the test suite and be used to enhance the technical requirements, share the test plans and results with broad ecosystem partners and make them easily accessible to Service Providers, System Integrators and Equipment Vendors.
