1.????BT Looks Towards Expansion in India and Ensuring Digital Transformation
British Multinational Telecommunications Company BT Group has stated that it is looking forward to expanding its services in India in order to use the country’s digital skills to create more products and solutions for digital transformation. BT Group is a provider of global communication services. The chief innovation officer at BT, Harmeen Mehta, had stated in an interview to ET Telecom that India has a big presence for?BT?and the company is probably one of the largest outside of the UK as well. She added that the company runs a big finance operation out of India, and the digital has a significant presence in Bangalore as well.
2.????Tech Mahindra to acquire 100% stake in Allyis India, Green Investments
Tech Mahindra said it has approved a proposal for the acquisition of a 100 per cent stake in Allyis India and Green Investments, for a total consideration of up to USD 125 million. The acquisition is expected to bolster Tech Mahindra’s capabilities in digital experience solutions – learning and development, marketing, instructional design; and engineering – cloud and automation, analytics, and technical support services.
3.????Bharti Airtel, TCS partner for 5G-based remote robotic operations
Telecom operator Bharti Airtel and IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have joined hands to build a 5G-based remote working technology using robotics, according to sources. Both the companies are currently running the trials in Airtel's 5G lab at Manesar, Haryana.

AT&T and Verizon have agreed to postpone their planned rollouts of 5G infrastructure near airports by two weeks, averting — for now — feared widespread disruptions to air travel and shipping as well as a potential legal battle over the matter. Both carriers confirmed that they will hold off on activating 5G services near airports until January 19, and that in the meantime, officials will continue working on adapting French-style restrictions on 5G to the United States.

Cable One launched a joint venture with a trio of private equity companies, seeking to speed its expansion of fiber to underserved markets. As Cable One detailed in a?preview of the deal?in November 2021, its JV partners include GTCR, Stephens Capital Partners and the Pritzker Organization. Cable One has worked with all three before, acquiring assets from Stephens Capital in January 2019 and Pritzker in May 2021 and teaming with GTCR on Mega Broadband Investments.

Nokia today announced that it is extending its partnership with Tele2 to deploy 5G RAN in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in a long-term deal.?The deal will continue to build on the 25 years of strong and close cooperation between Nokia and Tele2 in the Baltic region.?Nokia’s 5G solutions will enable Tele2 to deliver connectivity and capacity benefits at ultra-low latencies to their customers as well as reduce complexity.?Nokia is the incumbent and sole supplier in the deal.

Operational as HCIPL, the entity combines the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) businesses of both companies to offer flexible and scalable enterprise networking solutions using satellite connectivity for primary transport, back-up and hybrid implementation. The agreement, announced in May 2019, has received all statutory approvals, including those from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and Department of Telecom (Government of India) and the joint venture has been formed.

South Korean operator SK Telecom saunters onto the CES show floor in Las Vegas this week with an important message for the telecoms industry – that AI and telecoms can do more to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than add to them. T-Mobile inked a new long-term lease agreement with tower company Crown Castle and has signed on for 35,000 small cells. The deal, which involves a 12-year Master Lease Agreement (MLA), is significant for Crown Castle on a few fronts including reducing impact from expected Sprint churn on macro towers and serving as a major proof point for the company’s small cell business, Crown CFO Dan Schlanger detailed during a Citi investor conference Thursday.

A Chinese lab said it has achieved a breakthrough in 6G mobile technology. The government-backed Purple Mountain Laboratories said in a statement on January 5, 2022, that a research team had achieved a wireless transmission speed of 206.25 gigabits per second, a world-record for real-time wireless transmission. The development means that 6G technology could achieve peak speeds up to 100 times faster than 5G technology.

Telia Company has today entered into an agreement to sell its 100% ownership in Telia Latvija SIA (“Telia Latvia”) to Tet SIA (“Tet”) at a price corresponding to an enterprise value of EUR 10.75 million on a cash and debt free basis. The price represents a FY 2021e EV/EBITDA multiple of 10x. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close during the second quarter of 2022. Telia Latvia was founded in 1992 and is today a leading B2B (business-to-business) telecom services provider. The company has 46 employees and offers large businesses across Latvia solutions within four services segments: telecommunications services, cloud services, data centre solutions and media solutions.
