Nokia announced its partnership with Vodafone Idea to trial 5G services through E-Band in areas where fiber is challenging to deploy. "We are delighted to partner with Vi in trials to deliver 5G services by connecting smallcells and macrocells with fiber-like speed through E-Band, in areas where fiber is challenging to deploy," the company said in a tweet.

Vodafone and Telekom Srbija today announced a new partnership agreement covering Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through this strategic partnership Telekom Srbija will benefit from Vodafone’s global knowledge and experience as well as procurement capabilities.?The relationship will enable Telekom Srbija to leverage Vodafone’s leading position in digitalising its consumer product and service offerings. 5.????BT turns to robots for FTTP efficiencies

It’s certainly not the most glamorous part of the broadband industry, but, for network operators, civil engineering is one of the most important and expensive steps in delivering high-speed connectivity services to customers, which is why BT has invested in what it says is the “first dedicated telecoms civil engineering robotics test facility in the UK.”?

The test lab, a 5000+ sq. ft. robotics research facility that is part of the BT Labs at Adastral Park, Suffolk, will focus on developing “robotics solutions to speed the deployment of essential infrastructure, working with the university sector and other utilities to trial a new range of UK-developed robotics which are applicable to telecoms and utility sector civil engineering challenges worldwide.”

BT says the lab currently has about eight?researchers working across various different projects, “with the potential to expand as BT broadens its sphere of interest. In addition, we are working with six universities and two industrial partners that we will be hosting for trials and demos – maybe up to 10 people at a time,” according to the operator.?

7.????Altice USA prepares to take on Verizon with mobile, broadband bundle

Altice USA is looking to level the playing field as it battles Verizon in the New York metropolitan area, plotting the launch of a new Optimum Mobile offering which will allow it to match its rival’s double play bundle. Speaking on the operator’s Q3 earnings call, CEO Dexter Goei noted Altice has been feeling the heat from Verizon in areas where its Optimum products compete with the latter’s Fios brand. He attributed Verizon’s advantage in part to its ability to package strong fixed and mobile products together.

8.????Euro telco giants unveil Open RAN labs in Germany and France

In Germany, a consortium comprising the country’s three biggest network operators – Deutsche Telekom (lead role),?Telefónica Deutschland and Vodafone Deutschland?– and a group of vendors, researchers and test specialists have set up and are funding a new ‘open’ lab, dubbed i14y, that aims to accelerate the development of Open RAN and other disaggregated network architectures.

In France, the?Orange Open RAN Integration Center, based at?Orange Gardens in Chatillon,?near Paris,?has a host of vendor partners but doesn’t involve any other network operators: It has been granted Open Testing and Integration Center (OTIC) status by the O-RAN Alliance.?

Telia is launching its 5G SA core network in Finland, the first commercially available 5G SA network in the Nordic and Baltic region. With the new 5G SA core architecture, applications in the network are provided with required capacity and latency needs, allowing for the creation of private networks, implementation of applications for remote control and further industry automationn for enterprise and public sector customers. The new network architecture also sets the foundation for new innovative consumer applications requiring the functionality provided by 5G SA. Telia will also utilize the 5G SA core network to offer its residential customers in Finland broadband connections with guaranteed speeds.

10.?Ericsson jumps into the Omniverse for 5G rollout

Ericsson and Nvidia are working together on accurate simulations of 5G network deployments using the latter's Omniverse platform.

But while the likes of Microsoft, which is busily showing off its version of the metaverse through the medium of avatars, and Facebook's "new" parent Meta are presenting viable but future-gazing use cases, its refreshing to see that Ericsson and Nvidia have found a real-world application that makes sense today.

Ericsson is using Nvidia's Omniverse Enterprise, a real-time virtual world simulation platform, to build city-scale digital twins to help it design 5G networks for its telco customers. Essentially, that means building an accurate virtual model of any given city to test out antenna placement, signal strength and so forth. Nifty.

11.?Canada’s Telus is on track to retire its copper network by early 2023

Canadian operator Telus inched closer to a full-fiber future, revealing only 12% of customers within its footprint are still served by copper. During the operator’s Q3 earnings call, Telus CEO Darren Entwistle stated it has just over 200,000 lines remaining on its copper network. EVP and Chief Customers Officer Tony Geheran added it expects the migration of its copper customers to fiber to be “substantially completed by the end of 2022, early 2023.”

16.?Lava becomes first Indian brand to launch 5G smartphone

Lava?has launched its first 5G mid-range smartphone in India, which is being called Agni. It features MediaTek’s new 5G chipset, a 90Hz display, and a 64MP quad rear camera setup, among others.?The device will be seen competing against the Realme 8s 5G, Redmi Note 10T 5G, and other devices. The Lava Agni 5G price in India is set at Rs 19,999. The company is offering the device in only one variant, 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage. Those who pre-book the phone before November 17 will be able to buy the Lava Agni at a discounted price of Rs 17,999. It should be noted that one will be required to pay Rs 500 in advance to?pre-book the smartphone on the official Lava site.

17.?Oracle partners with India's Airtel in boost for cloud business

Cloud service provider Oracle?on Wednesday said it was partnering with Indian telecoms group Bharti Airtel's?data centre unit in an expansion push that will widen the U.S. company's customer access in one of its fastest-growing markets.

The partnership with Airtel Nxtra will help Oracle, which runs a cloud region in financial capital of Mumbai and another in the southern tech hub of Hyderabad, expand the capacity of its India West region, said Garrett Ilg, President, Oracle Japan and Asia Pacific.

Vodafone has extended its strategic partnership with VMware to accelerate the roll-out of new digital services, using one scaled platform for networks and IT systems, across Europe. This allows Vodafone to quickly implement and manage new software, applications, and processes across any mobile infrastructure and any cloud. The first application for the common platform will be the provision of 5G standalone (5G SA), giving Vodafone the ability to automate and orchestrate new applications based on this technology in multiple countries at the same time. Other new services will quickly follow, like enriched voice services over data, the connection of many more Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and next generation video conferencing and Virtual and Augmented Reality.

5G and 6G are technology standards for new cellular phone networks. We are also launching a new joint working group on counterterrorism and a cyber dialogue as well, Truss said. The British foreign secretary also met with President Joko Widodo and discussed closer cooperation in vaccines and biotechnology, the presidential palace said. Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous country, is Truss last stop in a weeklong visit to Southeast Asia to deepen economic and security relations.
