1.????EE switches on indoor 5G to deliver enhanced connectivity for customers

EE has announced the next phase of its 5G rollout, switching on indoor 5G at more than 50 sites across the UK to deliver high-performance connectivity for its customers. The move will strengthen indoor 5G performance and capacity in areas with existing 5G, as well as delivering new connectivity in other areas, in the next phase of EE’s 5G rollout. EE will be using new 700MHz 5G spectrum acquired in Ofcom’s auction earlier this year.

3.????Multi-gig competition to heat up as fiber takes center stage

Analyst firm GlobalData tipped cable to lose ground to fiber over the coming years as competition among broadband providers peddling multi-gigabit services intensifies. Tammy Parker, principal analyst at GlobalData, said in a statement the multi-gigabit marketplace is already heating up despite the fact that very few households actually require such speeds “even if they engage in simultaneous internet access for remote working or schooling, video conferencing and entertainment.”

4.????SKT sees money in the metaverse as it does the splits

SK Telecom's new CEO has set out a vision for the future in which growth mainly comes from non-traditional telecoms services. 5.????Qualcomm announces goal to achieve Net-Zero Emissions by 2040

Qualcomm Incorporated announced plans to achieve net-zero global emissions for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2040 and committed to the Science Based Targets initiative’s (SBTi) Business Ambition for 1.5°C. This builds on the Company’s existing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goal and includes interim 2030 science-based emissions reduction targets across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.

7.????Small Cell Forum launches a blueprints program to make scalable private networks a reality for key verticals

Small Cell Forum (SCF), the telecoms organization making infrastructure solutions available to all, announced the launch of a new program of work focused on developing blueprints for enterprise and industry, a significant step toward scalable and sustainable multi-technology private cellular networks. The initiative is being led by Ravi Sinha, from SCF Board company Reliance Jio. 8.????TELUS selects Kaloom to execute on disaggregated, containerized networking solution use cases

Kaloom, announced that as a part of its continued partnership with TELUS, plans to roll out its BGP Looking Glass solution. Kaloom’s BGP Looking Glass Router implementation uses disaggregated hardware supporting Open Compute Project’s Open Network Installed Environment (ONIE), enabling a bare metal switch ecosystem, avoiding vendor lock-in and lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO). Sterlite Technologies?Ltd (STL) is not actively scouting for large M&As for now, having filled ‘white spaces or gaps with recent buys but is open to opportunities if it comes across some ‘distinctive capability’ for the acquisition, according to a senior official. The digital network integrator’s recent M&A (merger and acquisition) announcements include the acquisition of network integration company Clearcomm Group and Italy-based optical interconnect products firm Optotec.

13.?Lava enters LatAm mkt with Panama-based B Mobile buyout

Indian handset brand Lava International has acquired Latin American handset brand China Bird Centro America S.A. for $50 million and has signed a global licensing deal with Lenovo-owned Motorola to launch Moto-branded features phones, the company revealed in its the Draft Red Herring prospectus (DRHP). Panama-based China Bird Centro America S.A operates under the B Mobile brand to sell features and smartphones in the Latin American market. B-Mobile is a low cost handset provider in Latin America with a distribution network consisting of mobile carriers, retailers and local distributors.

(VIL)?and?Ericsson?have partnered to showcase the power of 5G to revolutionize the healthcare sector in India by showing how 5G connectivity can enable access to healthcare in remote parts of the country. The 5G trial network set up by Vi on Govt. allocated 3.5 GHz mid band & 26 GHz mm Wave band?in Pune, deploys Ericsson Radios and Ericsson Dual Mode Core based on cloud native technology comprising of 5G SA, 5G NSA & LTE packet core functions. Based on the high data speed, low latency and reliability of 5G, a doctor located in an urban center can actually carry out an ultrasound scan on a patient who is in a remote rural location. This is being trialled by Vi using Ericsson’s 5G infrastructure to showcase the power of 5G to reach healthcare to remote parts of the country.

16.?AT&T bags $182M contract to upgrade USAID’s network

AT&T locked in yet another government contract, securing a 10-year, $182 million deal to provide network upgrades and services to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The deal covers USAID’s domestic and international connectivity needs, with AT&T set to supply wireline voice and data to the agency’s locations across the U.S. as well as connectivity to 90 USAID locations worldwide. Under the contract, AT&T will consolidate USAID’s various networks onto its own global IP voice network, with this transition expected to be completed in early 2023.

17.?VMware goes solo as Dell wraps spin off deal

VMware stepped out into the world as an independent entity this week, as Dell Technologies wrapped a multi-billion-dollar deal to spin off its 81% stake in the software company.

Michael Dell, CEO and chairman of Dell Technologies, said in a statement the deal’s close marks an “important milestone” for both companies. “We are unlocking significant value for stakeholders, while maintaining our close partnership in sales, support and innovation for our customers,” he stated. “We are full speed ahead, solving customer problems, driving progress and capturing opportunities in areas like multi-cloud, edge and telecom.”

In a separate statement, VMware CEO Raghu Raghuram said going forward the company will “continue to bring our multi-cloud strategy to life.” Raghuram offered more detail about VMware’s post-spin off strategy at an?analyst event last month, noting it plans to focus on creating products which enable multi-cloud operations, meet the needs of remote workers?and make it easier for developers to build and launch new apps. He added the deal will open the door to new partnerships and free up room on its balance sheet for the company to pursue acquisitions.

18.?Lockheed Martin to develop military 5G technology with Verizon

Lockheed Martin has signed an agreement with Verizon to develop 5G wireless communications technologies for the US Department of Defence. The companies envision creating a “cohesive network spanning air, land, sea, space and cyber domains”, says Verizon on 2 November. The firms also plan to form a joint research and development laboratory to develop prototypes and to demonstrate and test military 5G technologies.

19.?AT&T selects Amdocs to support its Business Support Systems evolution to make life easier and enjoyable for customers

Amdocs, a leading provider of software and services to communications and media companies, today announced that AT&T has selected Amdocs’ CES cloud-native platform to support its business support systems evolution (BSSe) program. Amdocs will also provide next-generation cloud operations for BSSe under a long-term agreement.

AT&T’s BSSe is a technology modernization and simplification program focused on increasing speed-to-market, improved customer experiences, and long-term cost-effectiveness while delivering on the promise of 5G. The project will launch on Microsoft Azure and start with AT&T’s consumer business units, including mobility with 5G, fixed wireless, broadband, and IoT.

20.?Telecom Italia top investor Vivendi asks for board discussion on revamp-source

Telecom Italia's (TIM) top shareholder Vivendi?has asked for an extraordinary board meeting at the Italian telecoms group to discuss the proposed reorganisation of TIM's businesses, a source close to the matter said. The move comes after TIM on Wednesday cut its 2021 core profit guidance due to worsening conditions in its domestic market, piling pressure on CEO Luigi Gubitosi, who in February won a second term with backing from Vivendi and state lender CDP, another leading investor in TIM.

21.?India Ensuring It Takes Lead in 6G

India is yet to see the rollout of live commercial 5G networks. However, the government has already started focusing on 6G as well. According to an ET Telecom report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has formed a new forum or committee that will focus on?6G. The forum will be headed by the telecom secretary K Rajaraman. The job of this forum will be to create a roadmap for pre-standardisation, research & development (R&D), development of products and applications, and more for 6G technology.

A memorandum from the DoT said that India should take the lead with 6G and create Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), standardise, run pilots, create regulations, test the technology and then supply it at a global scale as well. This is an ambitious project from the government and one that will take a lot of time to see any success. 6G is far and might only arrive by the end of this decade. At present, India is eyeing to rollout 5G networks.
