Teijin’s Commitment to Ocean Health through Recycled Fishing Nets
It is no secret that our oceans are badly treated: whether it is as an ever-changing habitat for incredible wildlife or with the litter which is increasingly thrown into our seas. Teijin are committed to a sustainable future, with a real focus on the creation of innovative products which drive more efficient solutions and by protecting areas which are so often degraded.
Teijin and cutting edge, quality products go hand in hand: with our industry reputation constantly trusted by markets around the world when it comes to delivering. Of course, our products can be taken out of service for their original purpose by end users: but this does not necessarily mean the end of the line for the materials which make each product.
As part of our responsibilities for the end of life of our product ranges, we are tirelessly working to reduce #ocean waste derived from #polyester #fishingnets. An inspiring example of Teijin’s awareness of the need for environmentally conscious solutions is our collection and cleaning of discarded fishing nets - with them being repurposed into new products, such as trays and stationery.?With our alignment with a network of like-minded partners, together we are leading the way when it comes to transforming the fishing industry by closing the loop of fishing nets.

Here at Teijin, our end goal is to research and develop this project globally in order to not only maintain but recover the health of our oceans. The need for a #circulareconomy within these industries is clear - and establishing such a forward thinking initiative shows our drive to do better for communities.
By taking polyester fishing nets - which are usually treated as marine waste or sent to landfill - and transforming them into resin and in turn new products not only heavily reduces the fishing industry’s contribution to landfill; it allows local businesses to use products which show that they are #sustainable too.
Who knows? You could be served food on a tray which used to be the net to catch fish in the same area…?
