How did I respond?
A huge thank you to everyone who responded to Tuesday's email.
So far 61 raving fans have replied with advice.
Most of you told me to ignore the idiot.
Not one person agreed with his approach.
I decided to take the high road and give him feedback on his reply to my invitation to connect.
Even better, why not let ChatGPT give him some constructive criticism?
Here's what I asked Chat GPT:
I received the following message on LinkedIn. This message didn't make me feel "what's in it for me?" He wants me to like and comment on his LinkedIn posts because it will make him feel like our relationship is meaningful if I help him. He doesn't say he will help me in return.
How could he say this better so I feel like it's a mutually beneficial relationship?
Thanks for the invite Ted and the note??
I am happy to be connected, but I do like to have value with those that are connected in my network - I want my connections to be meaningful.
So here is my kind request: I always appreciate a "like" on any of my posts that you may enjoy.
But more than that I appreciate comments (sharing opinions and asking questions).
I respond to every single one and it is the best way to learn from each other and get to know each other ??
That being said - What are you hoping to get from this connection?
What can I do for you?

Here's how ChatGPT responded:
The original message does have a one-sided tone, emphasizing what the sender wants without clearly outlining what's in it for you. A more balanced approach could be more effective in establishing a mutually beneficial relationship. Here's how the message could be rewritten:

Hi [Your Name],
Thanks for accepting my connection request! I'm really excited to have you in my network.
I strongly believe that LinkedIn is not just about increasing the number of connections, but about fostering meaningful relationships. I'd love for our connection to be beneficial for both of us.
To that end, I always appreciate it when my connections engage with my posts through likes or thoughtful comments. I find it to be a valuable way to share knowledge and spark conversations on topics we're both passionate about. Rest assured, I also take the time to engage with my connections' content, as I genuinely want to learn from others and offer my perspectives where I can.
Is there a specific way you're looking to benefit from this new LinkedIn connection? I'd love to know how I can support you or your endeavors.
Looking forward to learning and growing together.
Best regards,
XXX

Not bad for a robot.
A few tweaks and I would feel very comfortable sending this message on LinkedIn.
I would feel a lot better if he sent me a message like this instead of his self-centered request.
What do you think about the response generated by ChatGPT?
