Ted Lasso is much more than a fictional TV series character

I have recently watched the Ted Lasso series – it took me 3 days to watch the entire 3-seasons series. If you are wondering, why am I posting an article about a TV series on LinkedIn, you probably haven’t watched it; not yet, at least.

So, Ted Lasso is not just a fictional TV character. He is a guy everyone would like to meet; empathetic, truly positive about all aspects of everyday life, optimistic and a great storyteller. Ted is the embodiment of kindness and politeness, 2 values that tend to vanish day by day.

But there is more to it; Ted Lasso is the manager most of us wish we had. Allow me to elaborate.

1.????? Ted is a people manager, not a procedure manager. Although he knows nothing about football, he focused on transforming the team from a collection of individuals, into a undivided group, working towards a common goal and vision.

2.????? Ted is not an ordinary manager. He emphasizes on developing solid relationships within the team. His inherent kindness, optimism are not frequently met characteristics in today’s leaders.

3.????? Ted has a great attitude. He sees the best in all team members, from the top star to the assistant kit man, and works towards bringing out the best versions of themselves.

4.????? Ted is an active listener. He actively listens to all team members’ thoughts, concerns and ideas, and adopts his strategy based on this input. He also listens to the management’s side of things, as well as the fans’ perspective. This 360-view of the club allows him to take the best decisions possible.

5.????? Ted is a DOer. He takes action whenever it is necessary, even if his choices have a temporary negative impact on the team’s ability to compete, stay true on the long-term plan.

6.????? Ted is trusted and respected. He trusts that his player will deliver, he knows that the players know the game better than him. He doesn’t micromanage at the slightest; on the contrary he believes his team will deliver, making all the player feel confident, appreciated and therefore, motivated.

7.????? Ted is genuine. What you see is what you get and he is not even afraid to discuss his panic attacks with the players. His vulnerability makes even more original.

?

Summing this up, Ted Lasso is so much more than simply a TV character; he is a role model who motivates us to be better.

I highly recommend you watch this, especially if you are in charge of a team in your workplace. I can guarantee you will become a better manager.
