Ted Cruz states "Pregnancy is NOT a Life-Threatening Illness"
Ted Cruz is ignorant regarding what it means for a woman to become pregnant and give birth in the United States. Firstly, pregnancy is not an illness. The senator does not appreciate that the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate of any developed country in the world. In his home state of Texas, which has the highest number of uninsured Americans than any other state and a maternal mortality rate that is worse than Syria and slightly lower than Egypt's, it would make sense if he focused on this preventable tragedy. This is shocking but not surprising. Ted Cruz along with 20 Republicans sent a letter to the FDA Commissioner Hahn asking to classify the abortion pill (Mifeprex/ Mifepristone-brand/generic) as 'dangerous' and remove from the market. In reality, the drug is safer than penicillin and Viagra! USA Today published this story this past Wednesday, September 3, 2020. The pushback and negative response to his outlandish statement has been overwhelming. Sadly, systemic racism makes this request even more appalling. Black women in the US die at a rate that is at least 3-4x greater compared to white women. Life for Mothers advocates for ALL women to be their own agents of change and control their reproductive choices. Ted Cruz should recognize that he does not have the right to make choices for women's own bodies without knowing the science. 4 年I think Ted Cruz is more stupid than ignorant! His training is in law! But being a senator of the United States means that his horizon should be wider than his “stupid ignorance”! It’s appalling that such people get elected as a representative of constituents that need to get benefit of public services/information that need to improve their welfare in all ramifications, including women’s reproductive health! In all the areas, Ted Cruz has demonstrated that he’s more of an “illiterate rabble rouser” instead of an advocate for the welfare of his constituents! Should such persons like Ted Cruz be in a leadership position? My humble opinion is “no”!
