New Whatsapp scam targets Indian users with calls
Indian users of Meta-owned WhatsApp have been complaining about receiving calls from unknown international numbers. The alleged scamsters pose as HR recruiters in some cases and offer part-time jobs. On the alleged scam, WhatsApp said its users can flag concerns with its grievance officer based in India. WhatsApp added it is launching a “Stay safe with WhatsApp” campaign to educate users about safety.

Amid tech layoffs, Cybersecurity emerges as job creator
Even as big tech companies are laying off employees, Cybersecurity has emerged as a job creator. According to Cybersecurity Ventures, global vacancies in this field grew from 1 million in 2013 to 3.5 million in 2021. Another website, Simplilearn, claimed 1 million jobs would be available in 2023. The roles in cybersecurity include security analysts, engineers, architects, and consultants, among others.

UK man who hacked Musk, Obama’s Twitter accounts pleads guilty
23-year-old British man, Joseph James O’Connor, who was accused of hacking Twitter accounts of personalities like now-Twitter CEO Elon Musk, ex-US President Barack Obama and Microsoft Founder Bill Gates in 2020 has pleaded guilty and would be sentenced on June 23. He has already spent two years in jail and the most serious charges could get him a 20-year jail term.

Apple’s new iOS 16.4.1 (a) update addresses security issues
Apple rolled out its iOS 16.4.1 (a) update last week and said it recommends users to download it, as it applies important security fixes to iPhones. However, a few users complained their devices read “Unable to Verify Security Response” while downloading it. The Rapid Security Response update was first announced at WWDC 2022 and it allows important software fixes to be installed quickly.

Agency warns against new ransomware which targets health sector
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-IN issued an advisory against the “Royal ransomware” virus that allegedly attacks critical sectors like communications, healthcare, and education and seeks pay-off in Bitcoins for not leaking personal data in the public. The agency suggested maintaining an offline backup of data and encrypting data as precautionary measures against the attack.

Microsoft could launch ChatGPT’s new version over security concerns
Tech giant Microsoft could launch a new version of ChatGPT, in collaboration with the artificial intelligence platform’s maker Open AI, to address security concerns. Reports claim Microsoft has signed a deal with OpenAI for? $10 billion. The new version would be available for select users and organizations, who have security concerns.
