IS TECHNOLOGY TAKING OVER OUR MENTAL HEALTH?

Technology has had a deep impact on our lives, not to mention our mental health, and we simply can't ignore it.

Although, some aspects of technology brought optimistic outcomes for our mental health. But it is still vital to consider its potential drawbacks.?

HERE ARE SOME RELATABLE THOUGHTS

The internet connects us with people who are far away and provides unlimited information. But, like any other thing in life does not come without a price.

We face a number of concerns when it comes to technology's addictive nature. We easily get sucked into our devices and spend hours scrolling through social media, watching videos, or playing games.

This kind of continuous habit can lead to problems such as major anxiety syndromes, depression, and sleep deprivation.

Another crisis is that technology can be a huge source of stress. News and information bombard us constantly, both good and bad.?

Being constantly available to our workplace supervisors and getting emergency calls out of nowhere that you are needed. It is like living in constant fight-or-fly mode and not being able to make time for yourself.?

Sure, technology can be a source of distraction but we don't get to choose to pick time and place to attain that distraction even if we genuinely want to.?

Another thing, that all of us, once in our lifetime must have listened to: 'Because of this or that device you easily get sidetracked and miss out on important things' in your lives (ring any bells), such as spending time with friends and family, exercising, or getting enough sleep.

But at the end of the day whether we like it or not it is a proven fact that technology can also be addictive, and all the addicts need help. We find ourselves spending hours upon hours on our devices when we could do so much more.

It is important to be mindful of technology use and to make sure that it is not taking over our lives.

Here are some tips to reduce technology pollution from our lives:

  • Set limits on your screen time.
  • Distant yourself from your devices during certain times, such as meals, family time, and especially bedtime.
  • Find other physical activities that you enjoy and that do not involve technology.
  • When you are using your devices, be present and engaged in interactive activities.
  • If you find yourself getting distracted from some task, take a break.

FINAL THOUGHT

Advanced technology is a great tool for connecting with others, learning, and being productive. The key is to use it in a way that enhances your capabilities, not distract from it.

Being consciously aware of the potential negative effects of technology on our mental health can help on day to day basis. We need to find a way to use technology in a healthier manner and not forget to take breaks when it gets too much. The first step is always harder but you must set up some boundaries for your sake.
