Productivity improvement and technology advancement:
In a recent visit of a video at world economic forum, I was surprised to know that adoption of new technologies like IOT, AR, Analytics, AI, Block Chain, 3D printing etc is not helping in productivity improvement.
Even in some cases, it is decreasing productivity.
That was sort of contradictory for me.
Then going through some more blogs I understood following reasons:
Execution without a well laid out roadmap.
Even if proper vision is there, it is not shared vision
Technology adoption in silos rather than a comprehensive single digital thread
Strategy mapping out onus on middle managers and sometimes on even lower level
Missing role of chief digital officer and mostly confused by CHO- chief hardware officer not even CIO
Focus on digitization rather than business model innovation
Missing governance system to ensure things are on track
Missing appropriate KPIs for assessing progress & effectiveness
Lack of alignment of culture
Insufficient Capabilities / Skill set
Focus on localised optimisation- which suggests that every manufacturer should read " The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt"
And most important trying to comfort the end user so much that dilution of business interest and lack of flexibility for future technological advancement.
So please don't invest in an aeroplane if your commute goal is still limited to within city.
