Technology-Enabled Deliveries – Creating a million WOW experiences
A company with no CEO, but building the culture with Chief Culture Officer
When mid-career professionals take the plunge and make it successful.
Entrepreneurship is not by luck, magic, or accident. Entrepreneurship is by Design. Every entrepreneur has to go through Dhool Dhoop Dhakka.
Jayesh Kamat, Mazhar Faruqi and Sandeep Padoshi (JMS Logistics) were successful in their careers and were doing well. But the urge to do something on their own kept pushing them to take the plunge. They had in fact, decided at one stage and stepped back. Four years later they again met and took the plunge - it was now or never.
One of the founders, Jayesh even sold his car to manage funds and decided to cycle to work.
One often needs to sacrifice time, money and efforts to create a great enterprise. They called their service as WOW Express with the goal of giving WOW experience to their customers. They also named their delivery boys as Service Marshals. All the founders had solid on-field experience where it added up to 55 plus years. They put all their experience and expertise to make it a successful startup.
While initially starting with e-commerce logistics, they have also diversified into Healthcare. Health Express is one of their largest verticals today where they are collecting blood samples for pathology diagnostic test. With COVID19, they had challenges to get their staff to work but the founders convinced their staff and appraised them of other customers who were non COVID19 cases yet critical. They motivated their staff during the challenging times. With four plus years of existence they are present in 50 cities. They are collecting more than 5000 blood samples daily and their goal is to reach 50,000 per day.
They also started delivering fresh fruits and vegetables to their customers during COVID19 WOW Fresh. A truly inspiring story where the founders are now implementing their vision 2.0 and their target is to reach INR 600 crores in revenue in the next 3 years.
Interestingly, they do not have a CEO but CCO Chief Culture Officer. Sandeep Padoshi is playing this critical role. He says that in order to build a great company you need to inculcate great culture and he is on a mission to create an environment where employees participate in their growth process and contribute through innovation and great customer service.
WOW Express is a great start up story to read and get motivated. Those who are still sitting on the fence will get inspired to jump off the fence and start their journey.
