Technology and Disruption...What Is Insurance?

InsuranceThoughtLeadership.com recently featured a couple of interesting articles:

My brief thoughts...

I love technology and embrace it as long as all parties recognize that it is a tool, not the product or service. It is a means to an end, not the end itself.

Viewing the technology as the end and not the means to an end is like being in love with love. You feel all giddy but there's no lasting substance (and the intercourse is very unfulfilling).

What is insurance? Insurance is about protecting individuals, families, and organizations from serious or catastrophic financial loss.

If an insurance industry player isn't doing that, it doesn't matter what else they allegedly do well...not how cool they brand themselves, not how awesome their technology is, not how delightful they claim their 'customer experience' is.

To quote Metallica, as any respectable insurance article should, "Nothing else matters."

Consumers don't know this...It's the responsibility of insurance professionals to enlighten them to the truth.

Not too many people quoting Metallica in their articles now a days. But you sir sure are working it like a master of puppets.

Bill, you may be the first ever to work sex and Metallica into an article about insurance.
