STEM Education and Skilling critical for future skills
Education is the cornerstone of progress, and literacy is the key that unlocks the doors to knowledge, opportunity, and empowerment. Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon”; this thought reverberates in every context. Each year on September 8th, the world unites to celebrate International Literacy Day, a day dedicated to promoting global education. However, we still have a crucial bridge to cross in this journey. According to UNESCO, in lower to middle-income households, the share of 10-year-old children who could not read & understand a simple text has increased from 57 percent in 2019 to an estimated 70 percent in 2022. A significant increase in a rapidly changing global context.?
At Honeywell, we understand the need towards a sustainable society as a global technology and manufacturing giant. I am proud of the work the organization has done to enhance the rate of literacy & fight the factors that hinder it by demonstrating unwavering commitment through a range of initiatives that empower individuals and communities worldwide.
Honeywell's Commitment to Education:
At Honeywell, our work has always focused around building a sustainable society and environment, which includes educating today’s youth for a better future. We recognise that education is not just a fundamental right but also a powerful driver of social & economic progress.
One of our flagship initiatives is the collaboration with Avasara Academy, a school that empowers young women with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. This partnership not only promotes gender equality but also nurtures diversity in fields that are historically dominated by men. By providing young women with access to quality education and opportunities in STEM, Honeywell is contributing to a more inclusive and equitable future.
Honeywell has also established partnerships with various educational organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and governments to support literacy and education efforts. These partnerships have yielded positive outcomes, including increased literacy rates, improved access to education, and enhanced educational infrastructure in underserved communities.
For instance, Honeywell's collaboration with NGOs in several countries has helped in the development of educational resources, teacher training programs, and the establishment of learning centers. These initiatives have made a significant difference in the lives of children and adults who otherwise would have limited access to education.

Technology at the Core of Literacy:
We understand that the changing nature of the world is going to transform education as we know it. In line with this year's International Literacy Day theme ‘Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’, Honeywell's commitment extends the boons of innovation to the field of education. The company leverages its technological expertise to develop solutions and products that contribute to improving literacy rates, a prerequisite for a safer and more peaceful society. From interactive educational apps to innovative learning tools, Honeywell's technology-driven initiatives make learning more accessible.
Empowering Communities:
Honeywell's literacy initiatives go beyond providing access to education to individuals; they empower communities, particularly underprivileged and marginalized populations. By equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, these initiatives create a ripple effect that uplifts entire communities.
A case in point is our partnership with the ICT Academy. Under this initiative, Honeywell empowers disadvantaged youths from rural & semi-rural colleges and communities by providing them with skills that prepare them for their future. The upskilling programs of Honeywell was formulated to support the efforts of the government to reap the demographic dividend and bring the youth from marginalized sections to the economic mainstream through provision of 21st century skills to become self-employed and/or secure salaried jobs. It includes training them in advanced technologies such as AI, ML & RPA and providing certification. Around 60% of students will benefit from assured job placements as they graduate with the necessary skills. Since the partnership, we have trained 20000+ youths and women in multiple since courses such as AI, Robotics, MEL etc.
International Literacy Day serves as a reminder of the transformative power of education and literacy. Honeywell's steadfast commitment to education, impactful partnerships, innovative use of technology, community empowerment, global reach, and visionary leadership make it a shining example of how corporations can drive positive change in the world.
As we celebrate this day, let us all join hands in the critical cause of promoting literacy and education, for they are the foundation of a progressive and prosperous society. Together, we can close the literacy gap and build a sustainable future for the generations to come.
