Technocracy v/s Humanity
Its 2019, Samsung is coming with a concept foldable touch-screen phone that’ll also act as a big screen tab and could be folded into a handy-sized smartphone, and Apple is keeping a close watch and might soon come up with the next version of its expensive status jewelry, the next iPhone. Such are the ongoing trends we live with, and love to engage in discussing about the pro, cons, and other emerging brands in smartphones, smart watches, AI devices like Alexa/GoogleHome and other IOT-enabled gizmos.
Ah, the passion, excitement and intriguing topics of being a technocrat, and, apparently, every one of us is one, whether in different capacities, different livelihoods, and/or in different corners of the world. We are Technocrats, and regardless of the industry we belong to, we are all techno-saavy, and can continue a technocratic conversation in any professional or recreational setting.
Somewhere, along the way, amidst growing populace, social media, developing governments, mind-blowing innovations, and online dating, we forgot what the human looked like and what a face-to-face human interaction felt like. We cannot have a normal conversation with anyone without our eyes either rolling over to or glancing at our smart gadgets, let alone having an entire conversation that does not involve the latest smart watch, smartphone, smart TV, AI bot, or technological evolution in general.
We have come a long way indeed, we are smarter, and, despite my irk, I do acknowledge and appreciate that we are, in fact, more in-the-know and more intelligent, and even more liberal than we used to. While humans have evolved to be more welcoming and respectful of each other, they have, nevertheless, lost the touch to their human selves.
From school admissions, freshers recruitment, and management hiring to robotically keyword searching/matching, counting points or counting bounce rates and churn rates in hiring; from meeting someone, making friends and/or having a personal relationship to random 'Tinder-izing'; from playing with your child outside and spending hours in picnics with your family to gifting them a smartphone and their favorite video games while doing your own thing with your own gadget. The list goes on and on and on. We really have evolved.
I wish for the day, like fashion and music styles come circling around after a few decades, that humans see humans eye to eye again, take relaxed breaths and spend some time without anything buzzing in their pockets or bags or their eyes diverting away from that human eye-contact. Alas, that’s wishful thinking!
