Technical Skills you should possess as an SAP Cloud Consultant

I am back with, as promised, a blog on what you need to excel and make a mark in SAP Cloud as SAP Cloud Consultant.

I very well know that there has been a delay from my side in coming out with this blog, but to share the truth – I was on a vacation.

Before going on the topic, how many of you actually go on a vacation to unwind yourself and spend quality time with your family members?

To share a fact, a planned vacation is a must!

A vacation is not taking a couple of days of off during a week to complete the work pending from some time with family members breathing down your neck for its completion.

Yes, you got me right – that is very much not a vacation.

A vacation is of at least 5 weekdays, which adds up to 9 days, once you throw in the two weekends with it ??.

Try spending some quality time with your family, away from your laptop / desktop and office mails. It will surely help you come back with batteries recharged and you will find yourself roaring to go with your work.

Before I digress any further, and make it a blog on vacation – let me come back to the subject.

You all are well aware that SAP Cloud is the most happening thing today and there is no way you should be away from the Cloud bandwagon. If in case, you are not aware of SAP Cloud or have not explored it on your own, now is the time!

Below your will find the some of the Essential Technical Skills required of an SAP Cloud Consultant! While writing this, I have assumed that you possess a fair degree of knowledge and expertise in ??Programming Languages like Java, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS. These languages are used in developing cloud-based applications and in integration with other systems.

? Knowledge of SAP Cloud Platform:

SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering that enables developers to build, deploy, and run applications on the cloud. As SAP Cloud Consultant you are expected to possess a thorough understanding of SCP and its various components, namely:

i)????????????????SAP HANA database,

ii)???????????????SAP Fiori user interface, and

iii)?????????????SAP Cloud Integration.

? SAP Cloud Integration:

Integration, like in a conventional ERP (where Logistics integrates with Production, Finance, Human Resources) is the most crucial aspect of any SAP Cloud implementation. As SAP Cloud Consultant, you should be familiar with various integration methods which enable seamless integration between on-premise and cloud-based applications.

SAP Cloud Integration helps you to connect cloud and on-premise applications with other SAP and non-SAP cloud and on-premise applications. This service can process messages in real-time scenarios spanning different companies, organizations, or departments within one organization.

This service runs in the Neo and Cloud Foundry (CF) environments. Integration content artifacts designed in the Neo environment are also compatible (with certain limitations) in Cloud Foundry environment. This itself such a vast subject on which multiple blogs can be written.

? Cloud Infrastructure:

An in-depth familiarization with cloud computing concepts such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is very helpful. A SAP Cloud Consultant must possess understanding of cloud infrastructure components, including servers, storage, network, and security.

? SAP S/4HANA:

As SAP Consultant your experience with SAP S/4HANA, the latest in SAP's enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, as to how it integrates with other SAP Cloud solutions (like SCP and SAP SuccessFactors) also becomes imperative.

? Data Analytics:

If you are with SAP Analytics Cloud, Data Analytics is another skill that is essential for you to possess. This skill is required to understand how to collect, process and analyse data in the cloud.

? DevOps:

DevOps is a software engineering practice best suited to cloud computing. In a DevOps environment, developers collaborate with IT operations and other teams. DevOps goes beyond continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) to enable near-instantaneous deployment of products and services in the cloud.

Conclusion:

To summarize, SAP Cloud Consultant must possess a strong technical background besides being proficient in a wide range of technical skills. The aforesaid skills are merely indicative as to the technical skills any SAP Cloud Consultant should possess in order to be successful in his role.
