Technical exchange @SIFER. Surprising feedback!

Last week I was showing POWERVE? at the SIFER exhibition in Lille, together with our sales partner Andiman & Co . It was a real pleasure feeling the outstanding interest in POWERVE? and its applicabilities related to wheel load monitoring combined with cloud digital features, allowing on-condition and predictive maintenance approaches.?

I had the pleasure to discuss with several experts of homologation of new rolling stocks, running dynamics, and ECMs. Most of them, as usual, were looking to switch from the wheel flange test method to the POWERVE? system, because of its hand-portability features, easiness of use, and performance reputation, being the only hand-portable solution having received the full certification of compliance to the EN15654-2:2019 and EN50215.?

Actually, I was a little surprised that most of the experts I met during the exhibition were not so familiar with the latest scenario of the standards related to the evaluation of the static wheel loads, and many of them were still referring to the old national standards, instead of the latest one. Then, I would like to inform again all my network about the EN15654-2:2019, and why it is very important: it is the most recent and stricter standard addressed to the static measurement of vertical forces on wheels and wheelsets, because it takes into account all the factors of influence to be considered during the measurement process. In fact, it has been published with the main aim of harmonizing the measurement process, so as to deliver reproducible results on the same rolling stock even if measured at different sites, overcoming the limitations of all the previous national standards used in Europe, which, not considering all the factors of influence, were determining misunderstandings in the evaluation of the true balance status. In fact, the introduction paragraph of EN15654-2:2019 states that: “?There are many national and local procedures and methods for the measurement of wheel forces of new, modified and maintained vehicles in use across Europe. The existing multiplicity of different procedures and methods of calculating parameters can lead to confusion in the interpretation of test data. By having a common set of defined assessment quantities the possibility of confusion and misinterpretation is reduced. To achieve comparable results for the same vehicle, when the wheel forces are measured at different sites the uncertainty of the whole measurement process needs to be assessed. The current situation leads in some cases to non-comparable results from different sites. The normative requirements of this standard are based on current experience but these will not necessarily lead to comparable results, being obtained, when a vehicle is measured on two or more different systems. In order to improve this situation, methods are described in the informative part of this standard, to assess the relevant uncertainties of the whole measuring process.”

POWERVE?, being officially certified as full compliance with EN15654-2, and being the only hand-portable solution capable of directly measuring the QF0s at the exact location of contact points, at the wheel reference point as prescribed by the standard, is exactly capable of delivering reproducible results on the same rolling stock, even if measured at different locations. POWERVE? gots incredible performances, compared with the best stationary fixed system, but with the huge advantages of hand-portability, and half the requirement of leveled track length!
