It was a Tech-vember!
While we are still counting our kilos post-Diwali barrage of sweets and chocolates, Fitbit is on its way to being acquired by Google. Little did James Park & Eric Friedman know that the company they found 12 years ago will one day have more than 28 million active users, all of them sweating it out! And with this acquisition, they walk away with $2.1 billion valuation! Yes, that’s the amount Google is paying to jump into the fitness-tracker business with both its feet! It is perhaps a perfect marriage and it can give Fitbit the scale which YouTube got when it came under Google. Also, with so much data and AI which will be mined with locations and calories and health advertising for Google. Now an even larger audience will be targeted and I won’t be surprised that Pixel and Fitbit will be seamlessly connected like the health ecosystem which Samsung has created. I can say that Fitbit has on its own run this marathon and has finally reached the finish line, and what an impressive run it has been!
