The Imperative of Quality BIM for Construction Success

Quality in Building Information Modelling (BIM) is not just a technical requirement but a cornerstone for success in modern construction. While BIM adoption rates are soaring, the focus must shift to the quality of these models. Poor-quality BIM can lead to costly errors and inefficiencies, affecting the entire value chain. Achieving high-quality BIM is a shared responsibility, involving clients, contractors, consultants and designers. It's not just about visual appeal; it's about conformance to standards, regulations, and the specific needs of the project. High-quality BIM can offer a competitive advantage, especially in today's challenging environment marked by resource constraints and the need for sustainability. Scan-to-CAD in Action: Restoring a Franciscan Monastery

Our team was recently involved in rehabilitating the historic Franciscan Monastery in Deva, Romania. The team created detailed CAD drawings for multiple areas of the monastery and church, including floors, the building envelope, and the church tower. Utilizing two Faro laser scanners, our team captured the complex details of the structure, halving the time it would have taken with a single scanner. The project took approximately 8 hours for data collection, 4 hours for data processing, and 80 hours for final drawing delivery. These CAD drawings offer invaluable accuracy for architecture firms involved in the monastery's restoration, providing a comprehensive understanding of the building's structure and room specifics.
