Tech Tip #55: No Internet? 6 Tips to Reconnect!
My Internet connection isn’t working!
Everything we do these days seems to revolve around our internet connection: email, web browsing, even printing stamps or making voice calls. When the internet goes down, so does your business. What can you do when this happens? Panic?
Turns out, there are some steps you can do to ensure your business (or home) network gets back up and running ASAP. Complete these steps in order and stop if one of them resolves the issue.
- Try another device. If another device connected to your network can connect to the internet, it’s an issue with your computer.
- Reboot your modem. The modem is the piece of equipment that connects you to your internet service provider (ISP). It may be owned by you or by your ISP. You just need to disconnect power, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in.
- Reboot your router, if you have one. The router is a device that helps your internal network communicate with each other and the internet. Sometimes this is built into the modem.
- Reboot your Wireless Access Point (WAP), if applicable. The WAP allows your wireless devices communicate with the internal network and the internet. It is sometimes built into the router.
- Reboot your server, if you have one.
- Reboot your computer. This causes your system to refresh its network addressing and tries to reconnect to the internet.
If none of these resolve your internet connectivity, your ISP may be experiencing an issue. Contact them for assistance or let CTTS do it for you! Call us today at (512) 388-5559.
